Finally got the Model 700 PPS out on the range...

Its .308.

Sighting in this rifle was as easy as I've ever experienced.  I bought a 4-14x56mm Springfield Armory scope for it and we sighted it in at 100 yards.

The sighting in/burn in was done with a shoot once then clean philosophy for the first 10 rounds.  By the 3rd round the gun was sighted in (using hand-load with medium quality bullets).

After that... WOW!

At 100 yards it is no big deal to put 5 rounds into the same hole (shooting from a bench rest).  I can hardly wait to get a bi-pod on it and shoot prone at longer distances.  Its simply the most accurate gun I've fired.

It does have a comparitavely heavy trigger pull.  I'll remedy that next month with a jewell trigger.

Dang... I still can't believe how accurate the thing is.

Deja I wouldn't trust  bipods, shoot off sandbags.  Much more stable.

Also check out these guys.

Most of my shooting is off sand-bag/bench rest.  Its not a matter of "trust".  I know the sandbags would be more stable.  Its just an unreasonable expectation to always have sandbags/benchrests available.  I'd simply like to see how stable it is (er.. I am) using a bipod.

All the Sniper matches I've shot in the last 2 years have banned sand bags.  Bipod or shoot of your Rucksack is pretty much all you can do now, so I gave up my trusty sand bag in order to not got lulled into complacency with it, even for sighting in rifles.

Glad to hear your rifle is working out well for you DejaVu.  Virtually every 700 I have, and others I have fired, have all been incredibly accurate for the price.  Now all you need to do is get your comeups out to 1000 meters or so and it's off to the races.

My primary rifle is an Accuracy International stocked Rem 700 Police, with an aftermarket barrel and all the standard crapola done to it.  On no wind days (rare in Alberta) I'll shoot 1/2 MOA 5 inch groups at 900 meters with it, and same whole out to 200 meters.

Remington is the only way to go IMHO for bang/buck.

RGR that on the Reminton 700 PSS. I own a .308 that'll shoot 1/4" 3-shot groups @ 100yds (when I'm on) off the bench using my Parker-Hale bipod. Factory match ammo (it likes the Remington Match ammo best). I've found the key to accuracy is also to allow the bipod to slide under recoil (I put a small/med size towel under the legs).
Great accuracy for the buck!

Stage I AICS including:
chassis assembly, 4 sling swivel attachments, bipod attachment fixtures for Parker Hale-style and Harris bipods, stock panels (specify green or black), butt spacers, recoil pad, 5-rd magazine, bedding screws, allen wrench and fitting instrunctions:  $679.00
Unless that's in Canadian and converts to around $200 U.S. I'll most likley be passing on that one.

Thanks for the Accuracy International heads up though... a very interesting site.

In the US, Canadian money has no more authority than Japanese money though its great to have US money as a backup when traveling the globe.

Actually.. its PSS (Police Special).  Its all non-reflective black with a bull barrel.

I have a 7mm STW model 700 Sendero.  It fires a 7mm slug (like yours) but has a 8mm Magnum case behind it.  It packs a bit of a punch.
