Lord of the Rings released on DvD today
« on: August 06, 2002, 03:45:07 PM »
There's another one due out in October that is supposed to be longer... I'm getting both.

I also picked up Super Troopers to offset the importance of the purchace.

AKDejaVu

P.S.  Wrath of Khan was also released on DvD today.  My favorite Star Trek movie of the bunch.

I bought LOTR this saturday ;) You get 2 DVDs, the movie and 2+ hours of bonuses...

The other version which will be released later is 4 DVDs:
1: the original movie (just like the verion just released)
2: an uncut version, 30' longer (although I don't know what we missed, Tom Bombadil wasn't part of the script anyway....maybe we'll just get 30' of nice landscapes)
3 & 4: Bonuses

It should also be much more expensive than the 'short' version.

Btw, DJ, have you or your wife viewed Amélie Poulain yet?

Yeppers... Amélie was pretty good.  I get the feeling that they were trying to portray here as being strange... I just viewed her as a typical Parisan. ;)

Was a good movie.

Alas no! She is just exactly opposite to the typical Parisian girl :(

Anyway, although I'm no big fan of 'romantic' movies, this one was irresistible....I was still smiling a couple of hours after I left the theatre.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Another 'wife-movie' which won't let you fall asleep is Pedro Almodovar's 'Habla con ella' . Dunno if it's out in DVD tho.

Have had it on pre-order with Buy.com since April for $18 and free shipping.  It's currently "on order" - Walmart has it for $15...one buy.com order cancelled :)

Bought it today.
Same good film. The DVD is very clear, so you can notice the special effects more.
The 'Two Towers' preview is nice. FOTR is AWESOME, but it seems the next two movies will be even better.
I'm glad.

DjV, you mean Wrath of Khan was re-released on DVD (or a "special edition" version.)  I received it as a gift either this past Christmas or the one before.

More importantly...  Simpsons 2nd Season DVD was released also.  ;)

Picking up a copy of LOTR at lunch today.  I've seen it twice already, but can't wait 'till tonight to see it again.

thanks, DJ.  I'll check it out for differences.  If it's just some shatner interviews or something, I won't be upgrading.  ;)

However, I'm like you on FOTR.  I got (well, it'll be at my house today with Simpsons) the release today, but I'll get the box set later in the year as well.

hehe, FOTR is the first non-animated DVD I've bought since...  hell, I don't remember which non-animated DVD I bought last!

Got it, and now I wish I'd waited. The extended version includes many scenes that us LOTRphiles missed in the theatrical release.

Like:

Gimli falling in love with Galadrial
The gifts of Galadrial to the company
Samwise forgetting to pack rope, and getting some in Lothlorien (this is actually quite important to the plot later)
and more.

I think I'll be buying that one too.
