Getting into bikes. I'm looking for a big rice burner w/the super sport look. I've seen one by Yamaha that is large looking thats a super sport/touring bike which sounds good. I'm 6'2' and over 200. Some of the rice rockets are abit small to my frame...

Any suggestions, web sites etc?

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Ever ridden before?  Totally new to bikes?  Or just getting back into them?

If you have never ridden, my advice is buy an el cheapo dirt bike and learn to ride it.  Once you master a motorcycle onthe off road, then you are almost ready to deal with a street bike with your new skills.  Recall its not the motorcyclist getting themselves killed most often, its the other damn drivers!

If you have ridden and are looking for something comfy, you have something in common with Abunabi.  He's a big guy (wont dare guess weight) and about 6'2.  New is graciously overpriced this time of year.  But for a bigger guy, forget the bend-you-in-half bikes like the GSX-Rs and such.  Some of the older Ninjas, like ZX-10s and ZX-11s are mighty comfy...a tad heavy, but comfy.  Ideally, sit on a few, see whats best for you.

Among my favorites are FZR-1000s from the early to mid 90s.  Very powerful, yet suprisingly comfy.  I've had a few Ninja 600s (pre ZX-6 era) that were very fun to ride all day too.

I've never owned a Honda, but some of the CBR's seemed comfortable to me, but Im 5'9 & 170 pounds.  I always wanted a Honda CBR, but everyone seemed to have one....Ive always liked having something a little different.

So, that's my advice...Kawasaki ZX-10/ZX-11 and the bigger FZRs.  You didnt say a price range, but with the economy a bit down now, you should find plenty used.

Bat...with your SA I would shy away from bikes bro.

In all seriousness, as a former rider....and one who has had two too many accidents, I would like you to rethink this. Yeah, murdercycles are cool...draw in all the leather clad chicks, gives a certain sense of freedoom (especially when you are flying through the air at more than 40 mph...without the bike between your legs), and holds a certain status simple...but I think perhaps...and this is from a friend...that your head isn't hard enough to suffer the impact of asphalt.

Have long been a friend of yours and have offered many pieces of advice before...none of which you have listened to without experiencing first hand....but I sure hope this one you do.

Don't do it!

80 % of all acidents in the first 6 months acording to texas motercycle manual. its really true

i have had several bikes but never a bullet . stick to yamaha kawasaki or honda. suzukis are nice but just not was well thought out . for instance on my virago ( yamaho) the handle mirrors were threaded to losen when pushed from the front on both sides. just one of many things i liked about the yamahas i had. hondas are nice and seem to run forever but just seem to be hard or weird to work on . lots of plastic pieces were metal seemed more called for .

Cold, very chilly! :D  But true for new riders.

If you get your 1st bike, your gonna drop it. That much I have learned as everyone I know fell. Most did the asphalt slide several times. Get a used bike in the 4-500cc range. DON'T get a sportbike as your 1st ride! You want cheap to fix, not expensive fairings. You want a comfortable, light horse to learn on, not a heavier, cafe style bike. Take the safety course, but realize it only teaches the basics. You'll have to learn about rain, ramps and a thousand other ways to fall, all by yourself.

But the main reason for a junker 1st bike is speed. You won't be tempted past your limits on an old bike like an Yamaha SR500. A sportbike is made to party on. No one can resist that siren song. And it can get ya killed quickly. Learn for a year, ride in all kinds of weather, traffic and conditions. Then you'll have the experience needed to ride a two wheeled Ferarri. Imho. :) Have fun!

Thanks for all the advice guys. Goth... luv ya man. I'm taking that safety class. Then afterwards I'll evalutate the situation. Most likely I'll go out and buy the biggested baddest rice burner I can find and make a head line or 2.... j/k. I've got a plan...buy lots of insurance... uhhh still j/k.

I'll get me a used, moderate bike to begin with and keep it till I feel okay w/things. I've been in some hairy bellybutton car accidents and I lost a good friend in a motorcycle accident so hopefully the SA will be abit better than w/in this SIM.
