..and I am disappointed.  $16 bucks to read how they ate and slept.

It better get more exciting really soon because so far it has been a real sleeper.  

Anyone else here read it?

Yeah...I was glad I got it from the library and didn't spend money on it. Put it down and never pick it up again, that's how you get your dollars' worth out of it.

Had a feeling that would be the case.

pick up 'Pegasus Bridge' by Ambrose.. great reading.. about some bellybutton kicking British Commandos who had to hold a pair of bridges on the night before D-Day. Not too much back-story to slow things down, but enough to understand those involved.

The first half of the book nearly put me to sleep too.

I must say that for all its shortcomings, the book gave me a tremendous appreciation for the qualities of the B-24 Liberator.  It was one hell of an aircraft.  It's a shame that there are only about 3 or 4 of them left.

I wouldn't mind seeing the B-24 in Aces High now.

You should read "Wings of Morning" instead, about a single B-24 crew over Germany.  It was written by the son of a crewman who never met his father, but wanted to know more about how he died.  The writer did a good job researching family letters from the families of various members of the plane (they all stayed in contact after the war) and went to Germany to interview witnesses and local accounts of the fateful mission.  Good stuff there.
