Saitek Users HELP PLZ :)
« on: July 28, 2002, 08:47:03 AM »
Until last night, I had windows ME, with saitek x36 USB and CH pro pedals attached.  Using info from stickworks.com and saitekhelp.com I had them all linked together and working fine.

Last night I installed Windows XP.  I understand there is no real support just yet for using CH pedals (analog) with x36/x45 usb controllers.  That's the least of my problems.

My main problem is this.  I have d/l'd the latest dhauzimmer's drivers for x36 with use for XP, and it does work, however, it wont calibrate right.  the calibration programs that come with the drivers work fine, but when I test it in windows its all messed up, and the same thing within AH itself.

Also, no matter what I do, windows does give me a "cannot install this file" error when I install the drivers.  However, the drivers do show up in the game controllers section, and lists as OK.

Anyway, I also went to Saitek.com and found that they have some drivers available for x36 with use for windows XP.  Those drivers load fine also, but I cannot use the smart profiler that comes with it.  It doesn't recognize that my x36 is installed, even though it is, and I don't get the little black system icon like im supposed to according to the FAQ on saitek.com.

any ideas?

doh ... why didn't you ask last night ?

I know you were not aware that I've a X36 too :D

I don't use the D's driver because from time to time I get lost and lock my pov to (for exemple) upper left ....(a good way to get killed)

So I use AH keymapper and SD1.7 (the beta drivers without the SST)
I know I lost a lot doing that but we don't need that many key in AH

I've all command needed for a fighter mapped ...

you can get the drivers here : http://ftp://ftp.saitek.com/pub/profiles/files/SD1.7.exe

the dezilhingerhofer drivers dont appear to work till you have hazard script on and programed. once you get the hang of it its really simple.

Straffo, I currently do have the saitek 1.7 drivers installed.  Last night i did use the AH keymapping thing.  However, I'm having trouble with the hats.  It won't let me program the hats, because it shows button9,10,or 11 always pressed down.  (that is the mode switch on the throttle.)  how do I program the views for the hats?  I was only playing with 4 views last night, (left, right, back, and forward) and it hurt my gameplay immensely.  I use the look up feature quite alot, and couldn't use it, because I couldn't figure out how to map it to the hat button.

vader..

the latest drivers (2.105) require a seperate caibration tool to work it.  IE, you cant use windows to calibrate the joystick anymore.  For some reason, using the calibration tools that were provided by dhauzimmer's instructions worked fine, but when I went to test it in windows (not calibrate) it made my joystick all jumpy.  I tried testing it out in AH, and it didn't work right there either.  Which drivers do you have installed?

looks like you have to use the other hat

The lower one (8 way + up view on the pinky switch ) not the upper left (wich is 4 buttons only)

I attached my Jsmap.cfg (joystick mapping)

Just to share some info I too am using XP but with an X45, I found that I do not need to install any drivers from Saitek nor Dhazawhatshisname's. My system picks up the X45 automaticaly (even a fresh install of XP) without any extra software/drivers. I then can use everything accept the dials and Modes if I use AH to configure the inputs. I found this out due to issues I was having with SD2-something from saitek. I ended up removing all drivers and it worked fine. Built a new rig thats coming to the con with me and tested this on a fresh install.

Well, somehow, and I'm not sure how I did it, but I got the Saitek 1.7 drivers AND the profiler to work as advertised.  I'm a little disappointed though, the profiler doesn't yet allow commands to be programmed to the hat switches or the trim knobs.  Hopefully soon though.

Here's my next problem.  You all say you have been able to setup the #1 Hat with views within AH stickmapping program.  I cannot get that to work and here is why.

B9 is Mode 1 switch. (B10 mode 2, B11 mode 3)  One of these buttons are always pressed, and therefore I cannot map my hat switch.  How did you guys figure out the way around this, or am I not mapping the Hat switches correctly?

I highlite the action I want, then hold down the button I want to use, while holding it down I click the "set button".....or you can unmap those buttons (9,10,11) in the stick.cfg or with the joystick setup in AH so that they aren't "always on".

I was unable to figure out how to combine the hazard software etc with ah and not have a big mess.  So I unmapped those always on buttons and use stock drivers only.  Then I map through ah.  Seems to work okay, but it would be nice to work the whole Saitek setup.  Cheers bakerm/NOJACK
