Anyone here work for an OEM?
« on: August 16, 2002, 05:05:46 AM »
I'm producing a mod for Windows Millenium and need some info to help me complete it

If you can provide what I'm looking for I'll give you a free copy of the software when it's ready for release.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Product Information:

Before anyone points it out.....I know about Milleniums bad reputation, but..... the mods I've made (I've been using the modified version for approximately 2 months on mine and several test bed PCs) transform it into the fastest gaming OS I've ever used.

This software removes the *Microsoft Millenium* bloatware you don't need, installs the latest *DirectX* and *drivers* for your hardware, and optimizes core system settings based on input by the user in combination with runtime instructions in the software.

The end result is:

Extremely fast boot up.

System Resources available are higher than 98 SE or standard Milleneum.  (avg 98% free at start-up)

Exceptional stability for a Windows 9x OS in comparison with standard versions.  (fewer BSOD events)

Overall system and Windows performance noticeably enhanced.

The software also eliminates the need to manually update drivers or 'tweak' your system with 3rd party utilities, resulting in reduced install/configuration time, less hard disk space used, and reducing the possibility of redundant or conflicting system files and registry errors.

As an example of the performance increase possible.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recommended system requirements for IL2 Sturmovik produced by UbiSoft.

· Pentium III, 600 MHz or better.
· 256 MB RAM recommended
· Windows 98/ME/2000/XP compatible sound card with DirectX 8 drivers
· 32 MB 3D video card *, Windows 98 and 2000 compatible with OpenGl and DirectX 8 drivers (if you run the game in DirectX render mode).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Below are system specs for a test bed PC and observed performance utilizing IL2.

Intel Celeron 466 PPGA (66mhz FSB)

128 MB PC-100 SDRAM (asynchronous operation @100mhz)

Via KT-133 chipset, AGP at 4X setting

Gainward GeForce2 MX-400 64mb AGP using Detonator 30.30 drivers and DirectX 8.1b, overclocked to 215/175 core/memory.

Aureal Vortex AU8810 A3D sound card using 4.06.1189 drivers and E Blast! 24 MB ARL Soundbank.

Utilizing a standard Millenium install the test system was unable to provide a playable game experience exhibiting long game load time, abyssmal FPS, severe stuttering and long pauses during play.

After a format and installation using the OS modification and the same drivers, Il2 is very playable.... exhibiting greatly *reduced* game load time, minimal stuttering, and *increased FPS* resulting in an enjoyable and playable experience at the same system and game settings as test one.
