FW 190 F8 Panzerblitz
« on: August 17, 2002, 01:39:20 PM »
Found this page on the history of the FW 190 was interesting.  I was especially interested in the portion where it goes over the armaments of the F8, specifically the Panzerblitz rockets.  This would seem a likely option on the F8 that would be a nice addition to this planes arsenal.

http://www.fighter-planes.com/info/fw190.htm

"In the beginning of 1944, due to the difficult situation on the Eastern Front, the Luftwaffe was in desperate need of an attack plane with armament capable of destroying armored vehicles including heavily armored tanks (heavy tanks). In this situation, it became vital to arm Fw 190F planes with offensive armaments other than bombs."

"In December 1944, the highly efficient missile Panzerblitz 1 (Pb 1) system consisting of six and, more often, eight R4M air-to-air missiles. They were adapted for tank destroying by mounting an 80 mm M8 type warhead for an armor penetration of up to 90 mm. "

"The successor to the Pb 1 unit was the Panzerblitz 2 (Pb 2) unit. The main difference between them was the replacement of the M8 warhead by a hollow-charge warhead able to penetrate up to 180 mm armor. "

I have to think such a weapon would be most enjoyable to shoot.

Look a 190 A-8 with 30mm in this game can do more damage during a ground attack better than the 190 F-8 which was designed to do it.

Few months back I was reading where 190 F's would drop eggs with a 2 second delay level at 200 feet.  I tried it out and found that I would k/s myself at that alt.   So I upped it some to about 500 foot  level if I remember right and that was sufficient to hit the mark without killin meself.  Until that is they removed the ability because of car bombing.    I need a hanky.

This is a quote from a post I did some 9 months ago.
Give the F8 the panzerblitz and I promise I won't complain about it's ENY again :)

[...]"Personnel of II./SG 1, II./SG 2, II. and III./SG 3, II./SG4 I./SG 10 as well as SG 151 were intensively trained up to december 11 1944 and 82 aircraft were converted to carry the improved "Panzerblitz 2" [...] "In the time between January 21 to March 16, 1945 the weapons were deployed on a total of 16 days. In 25 sorties conducted during that time, a total of 115 Fw 190 fired exactly 934 "panzerblitz" rockets. The pilots reported 23 enemy tanks as destroyed, another eleven were rendered immobile." [...] "At the end of the month [March, 1945] there were "Panzerblitz" equipped Fw 190's at 1. and 3.(Pz)/SG 9, 9./SG 77 and at three additional squadrons within Luftflotte 6's sector. The number of combat-ready units climbed to 12 by April 20, 1945." [...]

The Fw190F-8 is missing quite a few loadouts.  It would be very nice to see it get a few more of them.

190 pilots would skip the bombs to the target.  They became so accurate they'd use the 2 second fuse to be safely out of the radius of the bomb blast.  AH does not have skip bombing or a fuse setting that can be user defined yet.

Well hell I just was liking 190f8 and ran across this stuff.  I even found there is a 190f8 in flyable condition (or almost) an hour from where I live.

I neglected to mention the 190f8 torpedo carrying capability btw.

Why? Only difference between it and the F are wing racks specially for extra fuel in the form of drop tanks. Fw 190G were designed for long interdiction missions into England. This was not needed anymore summer '44 onwards.

This has been brought up lots and lots of times. Those of us who requested the F8 before it arrived thought it was clear that it would arrive to AH with the Panzer Blitz rockets, when it didn't, we requested and has ever since requested it. I've got some pretty nice photos of F8's carrying PB rockets so don't know what the problem is, it's been proven they were used in combat, and not only some prototype.

Give it to us please.

one thing that has been brought up more then anythign else is the 190 F8.  The envyy value is 25, adn why is this?  Is there sopme sort of secret weapon loadout on it we don't know about?  Do 4 50kg bombs constitute it having a lower value then the 190A8 which can do the job and better and is a hell of a lot better in the defensive.  Either raise the value to say 35-40, or please give it the additional weapons which form a long time ago were goign to be added.  I think that was about 2-3 versions ago.

Should we get the PanzerBlitz and get a new GV that happened to be a russian tank - it would be time to run a most enjoyable Russian Front scenario or other event with planes and tanks.

(Thinking now P39 would be needed too, but perhaps could be worked around with Il2's.)

The F8 paintjob is very nice, maybe if it had more punch there'd be another reason to fly it often.
