Hi All,
One of the frquently voiced criticisms of the new bombing system is that the targets on the Airfields are too widely spaced for the "togglers" in our strategic bombers to hit.
Here then are some initial suggestions for adding targets to the airfields. Please feel free to suggest some of your own.
1) MG installations: Most British and German airfields had several sandbagged MG installations (usually twin MG42s or twin Vickers "K" guns) scattered about the airfield in order to combat low-level strafing by fighters. Adding some of these and making them player mannable would add realism and a fun dimension for defenders. They would also be a target more safely destroyed by high-level buffs, which would be immune to them.
2) Radio Shacks & towers: Killing these would turn off the "flasher" and the "Base under attack" notification for that airfield. Icon could simply go dark to indicate no communications.
3) Supply Depots/Warehouses: Containing spare parts etc. Killing these could either slow down the rebuild rate at fields, or add the possibility of mechanical failure in A/Cs upped from fields with destroyed parts shacks. Yes Virginia, radiators and oil pumps sometimes failed in aircraft that hadn't been pinged at all.
4) Officers Club/Naafi Hut: Not sure what killing these would do, other than making donuts unavailable. But real Airfields had them.
5) Vehicle Parks: With lots of lovely truckies, jeeps, M3s etc. Killing them would slow down rebuild times and make reloads unavailable.
6) Fuel Trucks: Park several of these around the field perhaps (fuel doesn't actually move directly from the storage tank to the AC) Killing them all would limit max fuel to say 75%.
