Gretzky was know for his wrist shot, not his slap & for good reason. in a game situation you're not going to be given the oportunity to wind up & shoot (except penalty shots) like that w/out some heroic defensman sliding in front of you to take a puck in the kiester & save the shot on goal...wrist shot will get the puck going almost as fast & do so in the bat of an eye & you dont have to take the stick off the puck

Some of the best slapshooters I play with don't seem to wind up at all. They raise the stick approximately 2-3 feet off the floor behind them before swinging forward.

Me... I can't do a slapshot to save my life...

oh... I play on wheels with a puck.

What do you mean you play on "ice"???  ;)

I played some at FSU with my friends.  Typical Florida hockey.  Inlines on an old tennis court with a ball.  hehe, we were so cheap our goalie equipment was my baseball glove.  lol

regardless, it was fun and fantastic exercise.  That and soccer.  Hell, I'd die if I tried to do either for 5 minutes now.  :(

Just remember to "foil up before each game, eh"

Credo of the Hanson Brothers - From "Slapshot" The movie.

IMO Joe Sakic has the wicked fast-release snap shot.

oh.. heel of the blade.  but those are general guidelines.
Like I said, offensemen tend to like shorter sticks, defense longer ones.
