Battlefield 1942

Got the demo and thought i would mention my thoughts on the interaction between the soldier and the equipment available to him. But 1st, i do have and play MOHA. The reviews on Battlefied 1942 said it was the same, its not. I will not buy this game, but!! The programming for interaction is fediddlein great. I think this is the way WWIIonline should be and how AH should be a few years down the road.

Wake Island Axis: Spawn on CV, run across deck to Zero and climb in. Fly over Island drop a few bombs and straffe Allied field. Bail out and have SMG going as you land in your chute at Allied field. Run over to the Sherman tank jump in. Drive to a CP jump out of Sherman and into Willies. Drive Willies to next CP..

Wake Island Allied: Spawn CP and jump into Willies, drive to Shore Battery. Pound Axis CV. Exit SB and swim out to CV climb up netting. Run across deck of CV killing and Axis that spawn, steal Zero and do what Axis did listed above.

The ability to walk up to any vehicle drive it, jump to different positions in it, jump out of it and run to a plane and fly it is fediddlein brilliant use of code.

Those into MOHA will not like this game. I do not like it but finally someone has used code to do everything in a game that you could think of doing.

This type of interation should be looked into by HT for some changes in code down the road.

Dog out........

I like it alright. It is another flavor of ice cream, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Ahhh Wardog... ever heard of OFP? :)

How about this: I downloaded a user made OFP mission, basically it was clearing an LZ with two AH-1 Cobras (Snake 1 and Snake 2), with Blackhawks coming in once you give them the OK.

I decided to come in low and fast to scope out what was down there. Ruskies were sitting in the trees, with a few well placed 50 cals taking pot shots at us. Rockets were the best option, I made low rocket runs along the treeline, quite effective against the troops, however on the 3rd run a 50 cal tore me up something bad.

My Cobra came down hard, somehow I survived but my gunner was leaning over the dash with his head split open. I was on the opposite side of the clearing, very "Flight of the Intruder" :)  . Damn I thought, porked that one. But my wingie was still up. I sat behind my crashed bird and vectored in Snake 2 onto the bad guys, he made quite a few rocket passes right over my head. fediddleing awesome to be on the ground watching.

With most of the Ruskies dead I radio'd for the Blackhawkes to come in. Two blackhawks ripped in and landed between me and the ruskies, and a big arse firefight took place as more bad guys came out from the forest cover.

I hitched a ride back to base on one of the blackhawks.

I tell you, stuff like that in OFP, where you're not sposed to crash but can still go on, makes it a most awesome game.

It's simple and brilliant. It will be first game I've bought since WW2OL.

Medal of Honour tries to be a little more realistic but fails, IMO, and DoD does a better job at that anyway.

Battlefield makes no claim at being high-brow, and is very successful as an instant action game.

The graphics and effects are awesome. :)
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

I play because its FUN.. who cares about being realistic as long as your having fun.

The graphics are great and ive had some intence battles in that game.

OFP and others like it are great too but sometimes i get sick of "realistic" games and want to go back to good o' arcade style.

Fun it is, indeed.  It makes no claims for realism, because its not realistic.  :D

I do wish it was a bit closer tho... besides being able to shoot down zekes in an SBD and treating torpedos as contact bombs... I wish it didnt take 180000 rounds of 7.62 to kill someone.

Great for a quick 30 minute "blow toejam up" session.
