Voodoo 4500 / Bad Frame Rates :(
« on: August 22, 2002, 09:20:17 AM »
Hello all,

Just wanted to ask all if you know anyway to increase your frame rate in ACES High. Since I got the new version I have had some real bad frame rates. And when things get hot we all know that having a bad frame rate can cost you all. I was wondering if anybody could give me some tips to increase my frame rates. (I have tried lowering the detail level down to 16 bit color ect.) Thank you all for your time. (S)

With that video card there is not much you can do.
Can you give us the specs on the rest of your system?

Maybe if you tweak out the rest you may gain a few FPS, but I doubt you will ever make it more playable than it is now.

Lower the resolution and run at 16bit

It's not just the cpu...  The vid card is very lacking as well.  I finally ditched my V5-5500 for a GF2-GTS over a year ago and I haven't regretted it.  More than double the framerate at higher resolution and color depth.  The Voodoo 4500 just isn't enough card regardless of how much cpu power you put behind it.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Doing fine with my voodoo 5 5500 with an amd 800.

But I do keep up with the latest via 4 in 1 drivers plus the latest x3dfx drivers.

Been running 57 - 75 since last patch, only dips for huge #'s of plane on runway/carrier.

You'll want to look at a whole new system by the sound of it eventually. Question of when you can afford to.

If your willing to build 3rd generation you can get a lot of computer for reasonable amount of cash.

It is looking like on OCT I will be able to get way better sys. Some were in the 2,000mz range and I do plan to get a better v-card too. Just need to crop up my money and get it done. I want to thank all that posted. For a second I was starting to think I had a bug or something. (S)
