Where I'm from, we work together
« on: August 27, 2002, 06:57:48 PM »
I noted a message about a private development group for map editors.  thats weak!

I would like to help in organizing a public access map editing group for those of us that are not expert at it, but would like to share ideas and such. I have the web space ( no banners).
you can email me  mostwanted@insightbb.com or just drop a reply here.

I read your post in the other thread also, I need to reply.

I've been in your shoes, and I am in your shoes now ( feeling like your on the outside looking in)

hell, I even been chastized for posting screenshots of my maps.

I've been here since the day HTC opened his doors and started with the Editor the day he released it.

Many questions go unanswered, many times i have been as frustrated as you. The editor althou is relatively easy, is very time consuming.

There is a Terrain making team, I suggest you apply and WAIT for an opening. Thats where the mapmakers are, and they have a private forum. Doody, no disrespect, but you are reatively new to the scene, and you'll have to Prove your ability to produce quality maps. HiTech makes his living on this game, It's not amature day and all maps need to go threw alot of testing. I know, I've been there, and althou you think things are perfect, and triple checked, at least a hundred flaws or bugs show up.

Just be patient and humble, and be thankful there are some knowledgable people who DO reply to questions asked in here.

I have been working on a server for people to store and post pics from and share files. I was hopeing it would of been up and running by now, but it isn't. one last holdup i'm waiting for is my bud to install the Operating system in the server then we are in business.

In the meantime post a link to a few maps , I'll take a look at them and help you fix any problems.

I'll also post a few links to some older maps i've made and let you see for yourself.

This forum has been the most friendliest place on the whole HTC BBS, I'd like to keep it this way.

Another note I use AKWabbits mapmaker, and i think it is great.
I am an AK and I have no privies to the new editor either.

BMP2MAP, is that what you are on about?
But isn't it a good sign that people are eagly awaiting the new version of the terrain ed? Although it is better to have to wait than not have it released at all (remember the oxygen incident with BIS and unofficial add-on makers?), its also better that people are wanting it, instead of not really caring if its out or not.

As for the thread, me wanna linky, me wanna see, me wanna see!

Ogre Is a Pure genius!!!!!!!! I had the Pleasure to work with him on another project. One problem with Ogre's utility is it's perfect, it makes maps elevation files perfect to real places on the globe. But sometimes real life looks boring or doesn't work with online games. In real life standing at the base of a 4k  mountain you can really feel the hight, but in online gaming you don't have that sense and 4k looks like a small hill. So when i design my maps i really characterize the alts. Ogres utility and AKWabbits mapmaker are 2 different programs.

Both are great programs, I just personally prefer Ak's because it simple/quick and easy, Just like me:).  Ogre's is very accurate and precise, but you need to know longitude and latitudes of the map your working on, thats alittle to anal for me, I'm a meat and potatoes man.

But Ogre is very nice to work with and IMO is a genius, was great working with him.
