For an idea like this, but what about providing a production quota/availability system? Possibly based on manufacture capability, or like ammo/fuel/radar have aircraft factories. If you squander what's availble, you will be forced to fly the next best thing until production can catch up. Make the planes 'cost something' not just perk cost. Would force all to value their 'lives' a bit more, rather then just die and respawn, die and respawn.
Sometime, back the AK's held a Red Baron tournament where you had one life per day. Once dead the best you could do is watch the game. You bet yer propwash you flew a whole different style when you had to make your 1 shot count. (Incedently I was CO of the Red Dragons now called VMF-115 Joe's Jokers at the time, flying against the AK's! man was that a short lived life).
My point is tho that even now, those flying costly perk planes value them more and don't just squander them, rather they pick and choose where they stick their neck out. Why not make all planes have some sort of production based price. Dunno, I'm sure this may have already been thrown around already but I don't get to all the posts here. If so just disregard.
