Win XP Pro help - Check Disk Utility
« on: August 29, 2002, 06:27:14 AM »
Hi guys

My system is semi-FUBAR.  I'm getting a new system soon anyways so it's not too important but the problem I have is that I have my HD partitioned into four drives.  I currently have one drive that 'isn't recognised as an XP drive' and therefore I start Win XP with the Command Prompt to force XP to chkdsk the drives manually.  Unfortunately the drive in question is 'in use' and although it will let me check the disk it won't let me use the Fix command - chkdsk /f

You can get Win XP to automatically check the disk on boot up but it keeps selecting 'NO' to auto-checking the disk.  Is there anyway you can change it to select YES, or any other way within the Command Prompt to force it?  BTW it isn't the boot drive which is somewhat confusing me!  I have found the chkdsk to be brilliant via the cmd.exe since I also had a corrupt drive and after a few attempts it was successful.

Any suggestions.... and no, not another OS! :)
