Anyone with sound edit skills??
« on: March 05, 2002, 07:17:39 AM »
I tried a certain site Duedel pointed out and found a great engine start up sound for Bf-109s :)

It says it's a DB605A engine start up sound.. and having found out it's already in a .wav format, I tried it out in AH. It works very good, and sounds exceptionally nice...!! except there are few extra seconds which should be cut off from its rear end, since the prop chugging sound drags a bit too long and is overlapped with the main engine sound itself.

I was wondering if anybody who know these stuff in sound editing can cut the rear few seconds off the sound file so the overall length matches AH's standard engstart.wav length. :D

And I'm also curious, would the startup sounds of other variants that use the DB601 be simular to the DB605 sound(the engine on variants G and K)? Would a AS(assymetric) DB605 start up sound be different from a normal DB605 sound?

 Anyway, here's the link :)

Oh, and if anyone can recommend a good software for sound editing that I can get from the internet, one that has just good minimal few functions and not too complicated(pitch control, length clipping.. etc...).. please say so :)

Gold Wave is pretty good. Free trial, $35 to purchase.

Of course to make simple changes, like cutting parts of the sound out, you can use the sound recorder that comes with every version of Windows.

While I'm at it, here's a simple but fun game my son and I created several years ago. Using the Windows sound recorder, record a phrase or song verse. Then reverse it and play it backwards. Listen to it enough times so that you can say (or sing) the phrase backwards. Record yourself saying it backwards. Then reverse it and see how close you come to the original. We had a blast.

I have Cool Edit Pro, SonarXL, BBE Sonic Maximizer, etc., etc.. I'm pretty good at mastering techniques. And, I can convert the finished sound to any format (44/16, 22/16, 96/24, etc). I do this sort of thing all the time, since I'm a musician who records a lot.

Kweassa,

Check out this 109 engine start.  I'm relatively confident this is the real deal.  I found it one Napster one day many months ago under historical planes and sounds.  It is one of my favorite engine starts ...

Thx for all the great recommendations :)

Rgr Nimitz, that sound is the 109 startup sound Mitsu's Sound file pack is using. What I'm interested in is the high pitch ignition sound before the propr rotation chugging starts.

Just downloaded a few sound programs and started to mess around with things :D I'm trying to add the high pitch ignition just before the prop sound starts. Got a few interesting results :) If anyone is interested in the 109 startup sounds I messed with please e-mail me at kweassa@yahoo.co.kr :)

ps) Do the DB601 engined 109s (E and F) have that high pitch ignition too??
