AH and the Studebaker truck & trailer
« on: September 12, 2002, 04:30:14 AM »
Entering the hanger we find the humble studebaker truck and trailer.... the GV work horse of the Allied European ground war (I am sure it was used in the PAC too)

Load out options

Katyusha

Both truck and trailer are loaded with 24 135/180mm rockets on tiltable beds. (total 48)

Artilery

The trailer is now swopped for a field artilery piece....eventually there could be a choice of various calibres.....the trade off being rate of fire, range and number of shells available verses actual calibre chosen. This option may also include an 88mm flack gun.

Supplies

Generic ammunition is carried in the truck and the trailer is a fuel tank. Capacity of this system would be greater than an M3 and equal to a C47. However as a supply unit it does not carry heavy artilery or Katyusha ordinance

Deployment.

When stopped the package can be deployed......from the drivers cab it would take upto 30 secs to deploy the system.

Aiming the Katyusha or artilery pieces is by the land mode gunnery system or in the case of artilery pieces basic bore sighting. Actually most spawn points would place them immediately in range. (excepting maybe some lower calibre field guns)

The Katyusha could be salvo and delay adjustable it would be fairly inaccurate and subject to wind drift.

It could be considered for "formation" deployment .

Damage and defence

With no defensive fire power and easily taken out by cannon fire....particularly prone to pilot wounded......... trailers can be taken out separately to trucks........
