Saitek X45 WINXP Controller ID's
« on: September 06, 2002, 07:07:37 AM »
I'm sure at least in WIN98 this was hashed out before. My CHPro Pedals alaways default to ID #1, and the Saitek to #2. At least that's what I THINK you call assigning which controller is recognized first, or 'primary'.

Now that I have reformatted and put in XP, with the new Saitek drivers for XP, damn if I can't assign under the hoopty new icon called "Game Contollers" the Saitek to be controller #1. I don't see where to change that like in 98.

It seems to be important with AH, as it will allow really nice programming within the game for everything but the rotory's, which I don't use anyway) when the Saitek is set to #1.

I just can't go back to 98, everything but this is solid and much better to use.

Any suggestions?

Yup. Why is that? The CH stuff defaults there everytime.

Certainly it's changable?

found this on goggle:

"I installed Windows XP on Thursday, mainly because I need to know how to use
it for my job, but I was hopeful that it would become my main operating
system.  Fortunately as it turns out, I installed it as a dual boot system
leaving my Windows ME installation intact.

Microsoft have made an amazing omission from XP.  In the Game Controllers
applet you can no longer assign a controller ID to a particular controller.
There is an option to set a controller to be the primary one but this
apparently only works when using all USB controllers.  If you have a
gameport and a USB controller, the gameport controller is always controller
1.

This means that I can't use my racing setup in XP.  I need to have my USB
Act Labs Force RS as controller 1 and my gameport BRD F1 Sim pedals as
controller 2 so that the RS Shifter works correctly in GPL.  I can't do
this, so I have to boot into Windows ME to race.

If anyone knows a solution to this problem I would be very grateful.

Apart from this major problem from my point of view, XP seems to be an
excellent OS.

Cheers

Phil Lee"

in same thread:

"This problem has been brought over from win2k. I have researched everything
about this problem and have never found a solution. All I use is USB
controllers and I still can't select the ID. I have to just plug and play
the controller I want to use. Get used to it, MS won't be fixing this
anytime soon.

another reason I'm sticking with a dual boot capibility XP/Win98 plus I do use the rotors

Good info. TY.

The new Saitek drivers allowed me to congfigure AH to work after much workaround. However, my initial Q? was indeed answered. IL-2 is a total wash for hat switches before I actually try a SST program work around, not sure about F4.0, but it is working OK and promising.

I can't go back to WIN98, AH is working, and I'll just either do the Cougar thing or do without the other titles.

If it is a wash with that new Lock-On game, I'll hook up on the hoopty metal TM stick immediate! Looks like I just need to SST each title.

Why XP omitted the ID assignments, I don't get it.
