P51 blues- whine alert
« on: March 16, 2001, 11:27:00 AM »
I now have to dubious honor of having as many assists as kills. To all you Bishes and Rooks complaining about the #'s... well try getting a kill as a Knight in a P51 when you outnumber the nme. There is always a friendly Knight to swoop in and finish off a con while you are booming and zooming. In the grand scheme of things... I suppose any kill for the greens is a good kill... but an assist means nothing to the current scoring system. Regardless... I'll still fly the assist king, and I'm sure many P51 pilots don't have the trouble getting kills in the P51 like I do.

My question is... why doesn't an assist count for anything in scoring? I'm sure there is a reason... but I'm having trouble coming up with it. Also... seems like dropping bombs on a valid target should get you some points whether you destroy it or not... very unfair to put one bullet in a hanger and get credit for it when a bomber made it soft.

I know I know... scoring means nothing... but now however PP get you some nice planes... and I don't want to have to fly a C-hog just to get PP's.

CHog is a horrible perk plane, because of the multipliers.

Try one of the P-47s or one of the non G10 109s if you want to rack up some perks.

Paxil, I feel your pain.  Been doing lotsa jabo work recently, but always end up having someone else get the final kill on a hanger so get nothing for my efforts.  I think damage on structure should be worth some perk points, even if you aren't the last one to fire 1 bullet into it that actually kills it.

Furballs tend to result in more assists, as do certain planes that tend to have to work for kills.  I don't usually worry about it that much as it tends to come and go depending on the type of fights and the type of people around.

Fly the 37mm Yak9... you won't have to worry about assists

All this time I thought I was the only one racking up the Assists.....I'm sure theres an ebb and flow to getting kills in the MA...It just seems I've been stuck in the mud here lately.

Paxil,
Try the Spitfire MkV or C.205 as well as Torgo's suggestions.  They both have decent killing power and good perk multipliers.

Paxil,

There is a simple solution.  Bring your convergence in.  I was getting assists too much in my Jug.  I brought the convergence in to 300 for all guns.  I don't have that assist problem any more.    Converge all your guns at a single range and make it get your convergence down around 300 or less.  Hit at anything under 400 and there will not be enough big pieces left for the C-Hogs to kill-steal on.

Bring your convergence in and get closer.  Even the 6 x .50 cals in the stang will do just fine if you hit near convergence I find.

109f, or g2, with gondolas.  Even with the extra 2x20mm only spitV, zeke, 202 can outturn you, and only the 202 gathers more points per kill.

SpitV is very good too, also underrated by the points system worth almost as much as the 109f/g2.

As an aside to this, I use multiple convergences by setting the inner pairs to @ 575 yards, and set each set in procession along the wings to a closer range, ending at @ 475-500 or more depending on the planes.

While this only allows 2 guns, 1 from each wing to converge at one time at further ranges, All four guns (say in a Jug) will converge from 300 up to 500 yards from one wing.

It's not as lethal as as a 6 or 8 gun convergence, but you can hit through a broader range with more firepower.

good advice from Leph, also you need to train yourself to get in close for your shots. I dont know if this is a problem or not paxil, I fly the P-47 adn the P-51B has been a part-time thing for me lately. I dont get that many6 assist on cons I shoot at. Pass up the low percentage shots and use that energy you would of otherwise wasted on the shot to manuever for a rear quarter high percentage shot.

Hey Pax,

Lets wing up and fly some P51.

2 mustangs are much more effective than one.

I beleive the P51's are better E fighters than pure B&Z's.

Ammo is right, the closer in you get, the more kills you will get.

(Good to see you posting on the board, btw, Ammo, been awhile since I've seen you   S!)

Try the P51B, Paxil.  It turns way better than the D, and is pretty darn fast- a great E fighter!  You will get lots of kills with only 4 50's on the 51b  .  Just remember to get in close.

Assists ARE calculated in with the current scoring system. YOu can find out the details in the online help section.
