Is the Game gaming you?
« on: September 10, 2002, 03:54:48 PM »
I enjoy reading the BBS.  Scads of sometimes witty remarks, and good information.  It has been my opinion, after being involved many years of participating in online flight sims, that the general population of flight sim participants are above average in intelligence.  Really.....I mean that.  I've been involved with various online gaming communities and as a whole the flight sim communities are generally a bit brighter.   Now...of course there are exceptions to this finding....me for example.  But I won't go into that

As to the title   Is the Game gaming you.....means......are some taking this to seriously?  Aren't we doing this to have fun?  To compete and have fun?  Isn't this virtual reality and not real?  Aren't we paying to have fun?   and so on.  Methinks that some are not......some are letting a virtual reality simulation influence their thinking enough that it angers them instead of enjoying the fight and interaction within the community.  To me what "country" or chess piece as it were means absolutely nothing.  All I state in this post is IMHO but I read some posts and shake my head in amazement.  Chest pounding, name calling, arguing over a game I expected from my children when they were young.  I laugh a lot when I read it in the text buffer or posted on the BBS.

Life is to short to be angered by a venue designed for people to enjoy.  You're missing the point.....and missing the fun at the same time.  Name calling, whining, pointing fingers, and chest beating are a bit ridiculous..........you're getting upset while you're supposed to be having fun!  I don't think I'd pay someone to piss me off.......I get people at work to do that to me for free!

Enjoy this for what it was meant to be.  Most people I've met here are great.......enjoy AH for what it really is, the best flight sim on the block designed for our enjoyment.

The views stated above aren't necessarily the views of our sponsors.  :)

Hajo !

This game is a reflection of a world, and this world saw 2 global conflicts only last century. Would anything like this happens if all us humans had enough sence of humor? :)

Folks play for different reasons. Some want to be top gun and get upset when things go wrong. Some seem to want to be the center of attention and enjoy making noise more than flying. I belong to a different breed. Here's an example of how things went for me yesterday.

mission: I encountered a lone Niki and engaged. He flew around a mountain where I ran into a swarm heading toward my base. They were all over me and I was fodder.

mission: I flew to an enemy base and was fairly high. One lone P51 was up there fightinng a few of my country men. The P51 dove and I followed only to be jumped by a swarm of enemy below. I was fodder.

mission: I saw a spit directly below engaged with three of my country men. I dove on the spit who nosed up and face shot me. I'm considering changing my handle.

mission: Got into a great turn fight with a Niki. I was watching myself gain on him in my up view when I ran into a mountain. How I hate proximity kills.

mission: I was approaching an enemy base and saw a few bogies below. So I dove on down and engaged them. I got on the six of one of them not realizing how close I was to their base. I found myself over their field being chewed up by their ack. I was fodder.

Never fired a shot  =o[

I can't hope to compete for top gun and seldom use the radio out of embarassment. So, you see, I have to be content with playing simply because it's fun.

Yeah Hajo, this form of entertainment draws all kinds, but the worst lot of them are the ones with what I call the "WWF" mentality.

Some of these types could have benifited a lot from having to worry about whether they will live the day out IRL like so many of my generation did.

It's just a game, people need to try and enjoy it for what it is rather than using it to boost their ego's or make up for miniscule me-things :D

From what HT said the reason we won't have a perma squelch capibility is because it would say that this kind of abusive behavior is acceptable...kind of says, to me,  that the developer isn't going to put up with it for too long.

different takes on the subject i guess; no problems with what HTC wants to do, but it'd be nice if at least *some* kind of standards were published.

as you know EQ takes a whole different tack, i'e', the perma-squelch and individual controlled vulgarity buffer to great success.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.
I'm not perfect, but I am closer to it than you are.

Hiya Hajo,

I do sometimes get frustrated when I do something stupid, or if I'm getting overwhelmed and tired.  So I just walk away, take a break, get something to eat, then decide if I'm ready to continue. If not, I log off and call it a nite.

No sense letting my $14.95 turn me into a jerk:)
