Alcohol is any -ane with an OH group attached. Methonol is Methane CH3OH. Ethanol..is ethane..C2H5OH that is the only one we can metabloize. Sincec OH is a water molecule with one less Hydrogen atom, it fools the transport protein that make the kidneys transport filtered water back into the blood stream. When that Portein is lock with an alcohol molecule, it binds tighter to the protein than the water molecule. This prevents the water from being transported back into the blood stream. Hence we piss more as we drink alcohol and become dehydrated. Liver failure will cause a poor or no breakdown of the alcohol and this strains the kidneys. Liver/kidney failure walk hand in hand.
