We've been through that before  :D

(I always do this to people with a dead straight face; I occasioannly forget that doesn't work as well on the boards.  Sorry if I sounded more annoying than I intended :) )

First, my apologies. I'm frustrated. I've been here since beta, yet AH is becoming a waste of time and money for me.

Here is the background of my problem. Remember when the server was moved from Skuzzy's place to the new ISP and it porked alot of folks connections? Didn't mine. Smooth as it always was. Then there was an announced route change. It fixed those that were screaming, but mine? Major porkage from that point on. I've been locking before 1.10. It just got worse after it. You're right, the switch isn't the problem, but it's the one I'm blaming cause thats the last thing I see when I'm flushed down the crapper. :D

Fix for a bad isp:

Step 1.  Find ISP's phone number.
Step 2.  Call said ISP.
Step 3.  squeak.

If step3 fails, move onto step 4.

Step 4.  Get a decent ISP.

in short : UDP is faster but unreliable
               TCP is slower but reliable

But I bet AH got an internal handshake so even using UDP it's reliable ;)

Straffo, (from the planet Vulv...??? :D)

Maybe there's a handshake... but you can't deny that there are mini-warps when you try to fly ising TCP protocol.

TCP and UDP are higher level protocols built upon IP.  UDP is a connectionless datagram based protocol where the transmission of data is *not* guaranteed.

TCP on the other hand is a connected stream based protocol, and transmission is guaranteed.  Each segment is acknowledged, and ordering is ensured.  If ya want more details, you should check out W. Richard Stevens: TCP/IP Illistrated or Unix Network Programming Vol I.

Running on a 56K at the mo and only have at least 1 UDP a week, doesnt bother me tho i just land and re log

Theres nothing worse than a disco in a bomber after it takes u 1 hour to get to alt and target.

Switching is better because it helps prevent my rage, i used to go through monitors on a daily basis. I understand your pain though. Sounds like hardware to me if it has been going on for this long.

Laterz all

If the switching to TCP Happens EVERYTIME, U must be running some sort of internet connection sharing device.  Check your Lan IP against your WAN IP if they dont match that is U prob.  Or if the LAN ip begins with 192.... or 169.... or 10... that can also cause this to happen.  Also Some cable ISP's run through A proxy server this will also cause the issue.
