Question about Perk rides...
« on: August 30, 2002, 04:04:56 PM »
I read "Perk" and "Unperk" threads all the time and I have a serious question regarding that - has HT ever actually changed the Perk status of a plane? From unperked to perked for instance?

The reason I ask is that Perkage doesn't seem to follow any particular rule of thumb except rarity. The AH Ta152 for instance is an inferior aircraft to both the LA7 and the P51D and yet it still costs 20 Perkies to take that beast out of a hanger. The only reason to keep it perked seems to be because it was rare. But on the other hand the N1K2J was also a realatively rare bird and that puppy is free and about as rare as dirt in the MA.

Is all this screaming about perking and unperking a complete waste of time or what?

Honestly curious,

Perk costs have been changed before.

In addition, the F4U-1C is now a perk plane; originally it was free.

F4U-4

Well, I have no reason why the F4u4 is perked because as far a I know its pretty undermodeled as far as the damage it can take along with the rest of them F4U series. I am pretty sure it is not perked because of Rarity because I know there were pretty well over 2,000 F4U4's made. I do think the perks on it should be REDUCED (not unperked) to about (20) So that the earlier models will still be flownsomewhere around there would be fine.  I Constantly fly the Corsairs mostly the D model and have read up a lot on its abilities and so forth as far as i know it is a bit undermodeled a long with a few planes.

So no I do not think talking about unperking planes or at least reducing the perk cost is a waste of time specially when there are other non-perked planes that are better performance wise but (50) for the f4u4 I dont understand

As much as GRUNHERZ and I snarl at eachother, I'm going to have to back him up here.  The C.205 was the only "5" series Italian fighter to see heavy use.

Also, I wouldn't call the Spit XIV common.  It certainly wasn't rare, and it did see heavy usage, by 957 examples aren't enough to make it to "common".

F4U4, I do beleave that not all that many actualy saw combat In WW2, but I may be mistaken, I am going on memory on this one and the cell I stored mt F4U data in is damaged rrom my tenage years:) I also think itis a bit pricy, having included it in a couple CT set up's for Free off CV's in a sudo 1945 plane set, It's apponet was primarly the George. In that set up it was undoubtly faster( most planes are faster than the George any way), but It did not rule the set up by any means. A squadie of mine has fallen in love with it thought and after hearing him rave about how great it is on Voice I have been given cause to think that maybe it is indead worth the coin. He touts it's speed, climb and durabality.

1,435 George's were built( of all types) compared to some of the planes we have in AH thats quiet a lot( Thats aprox 7 times as many C hog's)

Perk Values do change as well, I do beleave the Ta 152's price has come way down and I think the F4U4 was 60 perks when it came out. Also I beleave the C hog has gome from 8 to 10.

Perkage is afik a combanation of rariety and usage/ impact on game play. the later is certainly the case with the C hog, which had such an impact on MA game play that it was perked.

Saying 1400 georges were built is a bit misleading though.  Thats like saying x(I dont know the total count) f4u's were built.  Only about 400 n1k2s were built.

One of the problems of the perk system is that there are no specific criteria on which to base perk planes.  It's all done because it made sense at the time.

If perk is added to planes because of usage, nobody should dissagree that the spitV, spitIX, LA7 and niki should be heavily perked.
