OK tell me if you this this sucks
« on: September 21, 2002, 11:41:20 AM »
Just moved from Australia to U.S!!!! :) I'm 22.

I been driving in Australia for 5 years, not one car accident nothing!!!!

I come here to the U.S and I need to start all over agian and take my learners permit and wait 60 days etc etc.

Then insurance are now charging me 400 a month for car insurance because I am a "new" driver!!!!

This is what sucks!!!!!!!  I can get a internationals drivers license, drive for a year, be coverd by insurance but once I am off the Int. drivers license, I got to do my learners permit, wait 60 days before I can get my license.

Yes it is a whine because it sucks!!!!! lol.  I don't have to take any test, get an international license, let it expire a year then be on a leaners permit  wait 60 days and then pay $400 a month because I am a "new" driver!!!!!

I think I am learning about U.S politics!!!!

$400 a month?  4,800 a year?

1.  What kind of car are you driving?  For that much it must be a new sports car.

2.  You must be in a major city for it to be that high.  Make friends with someone who lives in a nearby small town and claim that person's address as yours.  Then get insurance in that town.  Your premium will be cut in half at least.

If they want to "play" politics then don't get mad...get even.

Quit driving on the wrong side of the road and they'll lower your rates. FWIW shop your insurance around for a better deal and ask for just the minimum of coverage.

What state is this in?? If you are over 18 and can show proof of a valid drivers license thee wold be no "lerners permit" or drivers ed classes. You might have to prove competance with a nwritten and driving performance exam though. Who gave you this info???

Sounds bogus to me. As for the insurance, shop around. Do NOT claim an address you do not live at. That would be grouinds to disallow your insurance. Check the policy for a denial of coverage clause. Making a fraudulant claim is a very common reason for denial of coverage in the event of a collision and they will not refund your premiums either.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Prob more of an age issue than anything else.

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Turn 25 years old, marry, have a kid and move to a suburb. Or, yea - have your driver license for more than 3 years. That will cut your insurance a lot.

Of course it will take you a few years to accomplish those things. Meanwhile the basic rates will go up, so you will pay the same you are paying now. Welcome to America, my friend!

Of course as an american you can enjoy all those things that make our insurance rates so high - drive recklessly and engage in insurance fraud without fear of prosecution because police is too busy to enforce existing laws. That's what affecting liability.

As a balance for high comprehencive/theft/uninsured motorist insurance, you can participate in car theft risking only a slap from the law (if anyone bothers to stop you). Alternatively if you do not care to steal cars, you can still feel happy because your taxes subcidise breeding of "divercity" underclass that will do it for you. Police will not even touch those because it will be racial profiling. For every "divercity" car thief they catch, they have to come up with seven non-"divercity" car thieves to keep the balance and not be accused of profiling and they have trouble doing that. Police is prevented from chasing car thiefs anyway.
Also, all the illegal immigrants in this country need to drive to work, but, being illegal, cannot have a license or insurance, so you are kindly paying for them.

Most likely an insurance company you use is legally prevented from refusing service or raising rates for bad drivers so that it could keep rates low for good drivers. It should make you feel better that a guy with 67 violations can still have insurance and drive paying only a bit more than you do. You subcidy helps that guy.

We, americans, are wery altruistic people - whether we want to be or not.

actually your problem with getting a US license seems to be the exception.

around here anyway. imigrants come in to the dmv, say they don't speak english, then they have an interpreter translate/coach them on the test.  I wish they based your insurance rates on how long you've had your license and not on your age.

I also think everyone should have to retest every 10 years.  I know it would be alot easier on me if the state would've just taken dads license instead of me having to tell him he shouldn't drive & my kids can't ride with him anymore.

btw why is it ok for the ins. companys to dicrimanate agains my kid based on his age but my dad's rates don't go up as his skills go down.
