Confidence
« on: October 04, 2002, 03:44:06 PM »
Yesterday I had a really bad day. Couldn't hit anything. Got shot down by a Typh, replaned twice and was vulched two times by the same Typh despite plenty of friendlies around. When they finally got the Typh I took off, pulled too tight a turn and crashed. Pure frustration. The Typh pilot, dangling from his chute  got his forth hogenbor kill this way :-(

Anyway, today I played with a clear mind and had my best day ever. Landed two kills over an enemy field in a Fw190A-5 and after that helped defending an airfield onder siege from a CV group. In succession I landed 2 then 3 then 4 kills, my first time ever to do so. All this in a lightly loaded FM2.  Of course the enemy was outnumbered and I got a fair share of luck. But I managed to turn around my abysmal score of yesterday to my first 1:1 K/D. Laughable by veteran standards, but pretty encouraging for someone who started his first on-line flightsim experience two months ago and can't play that much. All areas in the stats show a definite improvement (they must be good for something). Besides I almost exclusively fly planes with high eny values and don't fly spits (only the I), nikis, or LA7s, I only shoot them down (sometimes).

I have an awful lot to learn, but at least I have a measure of confidence now. I can tulips a situation, I can see the odds, I know some strengths ands weaknesses of planes I fly and I encounter. Great.

My last sortie was from a CV. An attack came in from a Tempest and a Spit but they were way too high. Turned around and saw the Tempest attack my carrier and crash. What a waste. Anyway, the Spit did a halfhearted attack on me, I turned after him and dove to the deck. Got within range (how the heck did he spoil all his E?) but then my joystick denied the use of my elevators 'don't move your controls so rapidly' so I crashed. A sad end to a rather good day.

And tomorrow? I will suck again, no doubt ;-) But at least I suck a little bit less every week. Incidently, if someone can help me with an ancient Gravis Phoenix joystick (best I ever used) under XP it would be appreciated.

Confidence is a good thing.  You appear to be taking the same road I took as a newbie (not wanting to fly the 'easy' planes).  I think you are having better success than I did, I don't think I broke a 1/1 KD for a whole tour until around my 4th tour.

I do think that flying a plane like the Spitfire or N1K2 is more helpful to building a new players confidence, and providing a solid base of ACM to expand upon as the player gets more comfortable flying in the game.

Just fly what you enjoy flying, and stick at it until it isn't fun anymore.  Then switch to a new plane :).  You'll become quite good in very little time, I promise.

Great to Hear you're making fast progress hogenbor! Confidence meens alot. Enter a fight, confident that you will win and the enemies will go down in flames, it will be so.

One more thing, nothing is laughable in any standards.

Let me know if you need help with anything.

Confidence is good-  every fight i enter i always believe i'll win. However there are times when I am too confident-   One time i saw a low spit V and decided to kill him (that's what i usualy think when i see a con :) ), i was outta cannon but i thought i could kill him with my 2 .50cals, yeah i'm a spitdweeb:D.  So it's 4 v a low spit-  and i decide to turnfight with him (i had 3 friends what could happen to me?).  I ping him a few times but not enough to do any damage i'm turning with him but not enough to get the right lead.

Oh look 2 of my friends augered trying to kill this con and the other just got shotdown- looks like i'm in deep****.  Low and slow  against a spit V (i was spit IX)  at the bottom of a canyon and nowhere for me to run.  I try to escape by entering a shallow climb but he nails me- curse you wilbuz! :D

Confidence is good- over confidence that's leads you to do stupid stuff like me is bad.:D   I always seem to do stupid things when i should have RTB......hehehe.

Keep at it Hogenbor and have fun:)   You'll have more good days than bad don't you worry.
