getting started

I am looking for help.  I just downloaded the Aces High and am having trouble getting it going.  I am having problems just after leaving the hanger when I first start up the program.  The plane starts to taxi out and the screen locks up.  A couple of times I have had success by pressing the on off button on the CPU which begins to put the CPU into standby.  A quick move on the mouse set the game in motion and I played for hours.  Yesturday anb today I have not been able to get started.  The screen locks up and I loose conection with the host.

Has anyone expirienced the the same problems?  I was also wondering if there have been any glitches with running the game with Windows XP home addtion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been having odd problems with xp and lockups. Don't taxi out of the hanhger tho (H on the map). Click on one of the square runway tabs instead and that will put you on the runway.

Good luck. Its a brave move starting Aces High after playing single player flight sims, but you'll never look back!

I'm running a 2000 Gateway Desk top CPU with the AMD Athlon 950 mhz processor with 384MB RAM, 20GB hard drive, 16MB NVIDIA TNT-2 Vanta Graphics Accelerator, Soundblaster Audio PCI 128D sound card, running MS Windows XP Home Addition, with the MS Force Feedback 2 joystick.  I have set up the video with graphics for AH 16bit, and 45fps and I think 640x800 resolution.
I'm on line through cable modem.

I don't know where  to start.  I have been reading other threads posted for similar problems.   I'm no computer guerue and don't understand all of what I have read so far.  So I really appeciate any help.

Detenator Drivers

You may wanna upgrade video drivers.  Also what desktop resolution are you running?  Might try running at the same resolution.

Have you run windows update on your machine to stay current?

also very critical is making sure your directx version is up to date. I think the current version in 8.1, you can by running dxdiag (search your pc for dxdiag if you don't know where it is, the icon looks like a blue x on a yellow background) and find your installed version. Oftern pc's come with an outdated version. If you need a newer version go to microsoft.com and download the latest.

good luck, bock

DirectX 8.1 is standard on XP thus it doesn't apply here but generally good advice for other boxen.  OTOH if you haven't upgraded to SP1 then you might be missing out on a DirectX component update

On Windows XP, you will need to download the latest Windows XP Service Pack. Please see the Knowledge Base article How to Obtain the Latest Windows XP Service Pack for more information.
