Installed sound card-locked system
« on: September 30, 2002, 01:33:59 PM »
I have an e-machine 1.0 gig with onboard sound card.  Couldn't get voice to work in game, and had a soundblaster card that I hadn't installed yet.  I didn't remove any drivers or change my BIOS(no computer whiz) :-).  Windows came up and detected new hardware.  I used the installation disk that came with the card and then my computer froze when windows was installing drivers.  I turned my system off and rebooted.  It goes to scan disk and then says "windows is installing drivers" and locks up again.  I'm not sure what to do at this point.  I'm running Windows ME and was trying to install soundblaster 512 pci.  Any suggestions would be great.  Thanks,   BSMALLSF

You will definitely have to disable onboard sound in your BIOS. Just pres DEL at bootup and scroll through the options. Nothing too terrrible can happen. Alternatively seek out someone who knows how to do it. You must have a pal who is a bit more of a computer wizz than you, I know i do:D

Also definitely remove old drivers before you install the new ones.
