New Terrains

While flying last night, I couldn't help but notice the huge amounts of enemy concentrated within a couple of sectors. Not that this is new, but due to the influx of new players, the numbers within these sectors were at a scale I have not seen in AH before.

I was thinking about what Laz had posted about bases being closer together to encourage more instantly gratifying air-air combat. Then I considered my style of flying...enter a populated sector at 15-18k and sweep that area...neither styles seemed to be able to flourish last night. A constant stream of enemy always coming in on top of you only allowed me to stick around for a short period of time...those who wanted to furball, would fight to get a gun solution only to be ganged up on by fresh incoming fighters with alt.

I was wondering what any of you might think about HT building larger terrains where large bases were further apart than what we have now, allowing for the buff crowd or squads to launch missions away from the action...and in an effort to provide fun for those from the Laz camp, place smaller fields in grouped proximity scattered at a distance from HQ's, large fields, and other strategic assets.

I may give Laz the biz from time to time, but he makes a good point...HTC's product, if offering someting for everyone, will only make it better for all of us, regardless of the camp we come from.

It's just a thought which I believe has merit...those who prefer to furball will populate the smaller more closely clustered fields, while those who wish to run more planned and organized attacks can do the same from the larger rear fields...more specific fronts might result as well.

I remember Dales terrain from I believe CK or the early WB's beta...it was huge...kinda cool as I remember it :)

At any rate, was just curious...I can make it work as the terrains exist, just wondered what the community thought of this suggestion.

Post complete!

The arena is filling up, but I'm not sure if it needs to be much larger yet.  I can do both furballing and I can also take off a little farther back and get altitiude if I want to.

The arena is quite full during "prime time" but still only about 100 - 150 in the off peak hours.  A large map for those who regularily fly those hours would suck...

One of the things that could be done to expand the fight areas is:

No Dar Bar radar under 500 feet. with dot dar active within 25 miles radius of the airfields.  This allows folks to fly to all corners of the map , albeit low and vulnerable, but undetected, until they get within a certain distance of enemy fields...then enemy can be alerted vis dot dar from individual fields and put up a defense, against vulnerable low flying A/C.This could be implemented with one stroke of HT's fingers, total cost about 5 seconds.

True Rip.

What I guess I'm trying to say is this....last night there were so many more enemy, concentrated in a small area, than I have ever seen. I have listened to many speak about micro warps and low fps rates while never really experiencing any of these problems myself...until last night.

Last night was just wierd for me...saw a flash of the future where the population expands causing the terrains and options for players to become limited.

I'm probably wrong...at least thats what HT usually says to me  :)

I was online last night from 1830-2030 EST.  Both Nits and Bish were pounding the Rooks home island.  Neither seemed to be paying much attention to each other, so there were LOTS of unpopulated areas to attack (for the Nits and Bish).  Still, everyone was crowded into small areas.  I suspect that we would see the same behavior in a larger terrain.  The vast majority furballing around the "action" fields, and ignoring the rest of the map.
