Instead range on plane icons closer than 1000 yards?

Even more. What do you think about no indication at all (excelt plane type) on planes closer than 500 yards?

I'm all for some revisions to the icon system.  Giving less range info may be a good start.  When the P-47D-11 came out, there was a bug that prevented enemy icons from appearing when you got them in the gunsight.  My gunnery % went down at first but then it began to improve as I developed my shooting eye without the aid of icons.  It made gunnery a fun challenge, since you had to actually line up the plane in your sight to gauge approximate distance.

Dont think it would be any real difference from what we have now.  Within 500 yards you would know you are within guns range anyway.  A closure indicator wouldn't really make much difference that close as you can quickly judge closure rates and at long range you would still know instantly if you are closing or not.

I think the icon setup we have atm is a good compromise.  You get lots of info which helps and hinders the attacker.  You can judge your closure quickly but the defender can also keep an effective lookout much more easily.  I say it isn't broken so don't try to fix it.

I would prefer a closer rate indicator instead of a range indicator.

It might even be better to replace the range indicator with a closure indicator at all ranges.

Certainly at less than 1000 yards would be a good test.

It's been suggested many times that instead of the laser accuracy we hav now, the closure should be in increments, perhaps 200 feet.

That way you cannot just look back and say "oh, am closing with 1 yard a minute, excellent"

Will make fights much more interesting, as it'll force ya to manuever more.

No range icon makes a big difference, try gunning with tunnel gun in B17, much more difficult.

I upped a Ju88 in CT the other day and was turnfighting D11, Ju88 gunsight doesn't work properly and as I got on his 6, range would go and could'nt score hits.  Even at less then 300.  Try it out.

Had no trouble deflection shooting thou, because the range would show then when it counted.

Vote [1] for no range icons!!!!!

I was wondering what it would be like if only friendly aircraft were identified by Icons and range, that enemy aircraft, tanks, ships and the like were not identified by icon and range.  Might be very interesting play.

No range icons is probably a bit too radical. It's not very likely HTC will do this for business reasons.

But, they COULD just let the range thing be like it is when cons are outside 1.0 - i.e in increments. The further out the enemy is, the *more imprecise* the reading gets.

I'd really love this.

Too many fights end wiuth one con running, seeing that he is extending with 1 yard a minute and just going on. If he had not known he was a tad bit faster, he'd probably have to consider fighting it out.

I'd love this.

Plus imagine how much ammo you'd save not being able to tell whether con is 800yds or 1k   :D

Of course eventually you'd be able to, just a matter of learning I suppose.  Like real life even. <looks around for anti-realism crowd>
