What about.....
« on: October 03, 2002, 04:00:58 PM »
What about we have all candidates for public office sign a contract regarding their positions? Wouldn't it be great to finally know who stands for what and that they arent giving lip service just to get elected? Would be nice if they wrote their own speeches too.
Their views on (to name a few):
Separation on Church and State.
Taxation (more or less and where to funnel the tax dollars).
Military funding.
Social Security.
Abortion.
Welfare.
Environment.
Big Buisness.

If they break the contract, they'll be forced to resign (without compensation and benefits).
Would think that a lot more voters would be more informed and the voting numbers would increase dramatically.
As it is, one can't trust a politician no matter the affiliation.
I know it's a 'dream world' type of thing, but what we have now needs fixing.
Just my $0.02.
Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. ... Bertrand Russell

intersesting idea (have kicked it around awhile myself) the main fault I see is they would just say that after being elected they talked to people they represent and where convinced of the 'error of their ways'.

I would like to see doing away with partys altogether.

just have a questionair you fill out if you want to run for office.
have it include your statement about yourself then onto some questions about your position on issues.  let people vote on what questions are asked.

if a guy doesn't give solid answers or doesn't answer questions don't vote for him.

make the bastards campaign on what they believe, not who their freinds are.
