Suggestion...new revenue stream for HTC?
« on: October 01, 2002, 08:19:40 AM »
I've been seeing this alot on the history channel:

They are showing a recreation of a battle or a particular situation.  They use a computer generated simulator to do this.

I was just thinking that HTC could do this...in spades...for any World War II air battle simulation.

All they would need is a bunch of people to play the roles (I'd get a kick outta being able to say.."That's me in my 190A5" when it is shown on TV) with everyone rolling AH film.  Splice together the best scenes, edit it all down to the necessary time frame, voice it over (possibly with some dramatic music interjected at the right times) and voila!  Sell it to the History Channel, Discovery Wings, Arts & Entertainment..etc, etc.  OR...have them allow a small banner ad to run while the film is playing, with the web address for Aces High on it.  At a minimum it would mean some free (or at least cheaper) advertising.

Yes/No?

seems like a sound idea...

they could even recruit some of the folks who 'age' and filter screen shots from AH .. when the "good one's" at it do it well it looks real good .... but they've only done one frame at a time so far as i've seen. You'd need 30 frames a sec for TV with no warp :D

Take a look at some 'aged' or filtered pics in screenshot area Curval.  Looks tons better than stuff I see on TV.  And anyway i'd rather have HTC improveing AH.  But nevertheless seems like a good idea at frist glance.

Not a bad idea Curval but I would think that the flights might have to be scripted to a certain degree. Just think if you get a hot Fw-190 driver flying against an equally hot 'Stang' driver. They might never get the flame out shot that they want of the 190 going down. :D

Absolutely...the whole thing would have to be scripted...just loosely so.

Lets say a documentary is focusing on the war in the Pacific.  They have a point at which they are discussing the death of Yamamoto.  What I am suggesting is merely showing a squad of P38s taking off, formed up and flying towards the intended target and then hitting a weakly defended transport aircraft.  The whole time the narrator is telling the story.

It is merely to add "life" to the narration.  In the past this has been done by showing file footage..you know, the same clip played fifty times.  I think it can be done better by something along the lines that I am suggesting.  In fact it is being done already...just not very well IMHO.
