Game port problems
« on: October 01, 2002, 09:39:45 PM »
System :
 Win 98se
 Asus P4B533 M/B
 Intel 2 Megh P4
 512k DDR RAM
 SoundBlaster Audigy
 Gainward Gforce4 64 MB Video
 Wingman Interceptor Joystick
 T/M Elite Pedels

 Problem-
I can't get this thing to recognize the game port on either the Motherboard or the sound card
I have looked in the BIOS , but there is no option (that I can see)
to enable or disable the gameport on the m/b
I have switched out to a SB Live! that I know works ,and get the same thing, so I m pretty sure (hehe) it's a conflict with the M/B
I am using the exact same setup(except for M/B and Processer ) on my 1 meg machine, so I know its not the soundcard.
So , can anyone tell me how to disable or enable the gameport on a Asus P4B533 Motherboard ?
I don't see anything in the Book except that it has one.
 or have any Ideas ?
Yes I have D/L'd newest drivers for J/S,S/C,Video card etc
Any help would be greatly appreciated
  Thanks
    Flit

YOYO,

Does the gameport showup in device manager? Under either sound, game devices,, or creative devices?

In control panel\multimedia\devices, does it showup there?

Might be seeing it as a midiport instead of gameport.

Have you tried going to add/hardware and force an install of a gameport?

Your motherboard manual or the company who made is going to be the best bet.

Chances are there is a jumper to disable that sucker, just need to find it.

Doesn't  make any difference on the motherboard jumper except for onboard sound controller. (should be disabled when using pci sc)  Asus uses a jumper for ob sound.
Both creative sc's (Live, Audigy) is not enabling gameport.

Just had a sys where after installing drvrs for live card, in device mamager had a pci input card w/!,, removed it, rebooted and  walla windows installed gameport. Have to admit w/all the sys I work on first time I've seen this happen but ikt did on clean os install.

Basically need more info, gotta check device manager.

It's a P4B533 w/ Intel 845E chipset
it seem s that when the " creative joystick emulater" tries to load the 'puter locks up
The gameport and s/c show up in the device manager, but the "emulater "has the big yellow !
theres gotta be a conflict, just gotta chase it down
Any Ideas would be welcome, and thanks for the replys

Is your BIOS set for PLUG+PRAY?  Do you have a NIC installed?   Check Page 2-23 in your manual it'll tell you how to disable the onboard sound.
Your game port is probably sharing the same IRQ or memory address as the creative.  You should be able to manually specify a memory address in 98 VIA the resources tab on teh conflicting device's property page.

In your BIOS, if there is an option for the onboard game port, it would be under 'Intergrated Peripherals'.

You can also try to see if you can force Win98SE Plug-N-Pray to install the SB game port by removing all the listings under 'Sound, Video and Game controllers' in your Device Manager and then rebooting to force the Plug-N-Pray.  If that still doesn't work, you can manually add the Microsoft standard game port.
