Hi Pei,

>Could anyone point me to performance figures for the Fw-190A9?

There's a Focke-Wulf type overview dated 01.10.1944, signed "Vogtsberger", that indicates 560 km/h at sea level and 666 km/h at 6400 m for the Fw 190A-9 equipped with a BMW801F. That's about 22 km/h faster than the Fw 190A-8 under the same conditions.

However, no Special War Emergency Power values (C3/MW50/GM-1 injection) are given. The unboosted full-throttle height speed of the A-9 still is superior to that of the boosted A-8 (652 km/h).

Ceiling is up to 10800 m from the A-8's 9950 m (though with boost, the A-8 achieved 10600 m as well).

(The Fw 190D-9 is superior to the A-9 in every aspect of performance listed in that chart.)

Ah, but the D-9 doesn't have 4 x 20mm  :)

Hi Jab,

>Ah, but the D-9 doesn't have 4 x 20mm  :)

Good observation! :-)

However, the D-9 had the same wing as the A-8 (or A-9) and could be fitted with outboard MG151/20 (or MK108) as well.

(I think this was rarely done, though. It's my impression that the existing photographs of 4-cannon Doras mostly show prototypes or the rare D-11/D-13 aircraft.)

In any case, the Vogtsberger (or "Voigtsberger"?) table lists the impact the addition of the outboard cannon. The D-9 with outboard cannon lost 10 km/h of its top speed and 0.45 m/s of its climb at at Full Throttle Height, while service ceiling dropped by 150 m.

Even figuring in these losses, the D-9 is still superior to the A-9 in every aspect of performance listed in that table :-)

(I actually checked this before commenting on the superiority of the D-9, but deleted the detailed comparison when I noticed it doubled the take-off weight of my post ;-)

The performance numbers I've seen from the A9 and F9, using (F engine wasn't used in operational production planes) BWM 801 TS engines was around 385 mph at the deck. I want THIS PLANE I WANT IT I WANT IT GIVE IT TO ME!!!!!!
