Can't change clock frequencies for my GF3 in Win2K
« on: October 04, 2002, 12:22:19 AM »
So I switched over to Windows 2000 Pro.  I've got the OS completely up to date (SP3, all other updates, DX 8.1) and I've got the 30.82 nVidia drivers.

I put the CoolBits registry entry (DWORD_VALUE: 3) into the NVTweak key in the registry, but I can't access anything but the driver information in properties for the GF3.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?  This card will run a helluva lot faster than the default, so I really feel hamstrung if I can't get in there and overclock it.  It seems that I had this working before when I had 2K briefly installed, and that I did it with this method.

This has got me frustrated enough that I'm ready to jump in front of traffic to end my suffering.

Help!

did you try RivaTuner or the Geforce Tweak Utility?

I just installed Gainward's ExpertTool which let me adjust them... though when I hit 'Apply', it didn't seem like it applied them... but maybe it doesn't refresh the screen like when you do it from the display properties.

I'd still like to know how to set it up that way if anyone knows...

you probably will need to reboot before it'll take affect.  Rivatuner and other utilities (including MSI's which I have used) have to reboot before the change will take effect.

Hmmm... I should look at the MSI one since I'm sure it is on the disk that came w/ my MSI motherboard... is it decent?

Well, it came with my ti4600 G4.  IMHO rivatuner is the best, hands down.  I really am pushing you towards that option.  You may wanna try the detenator 40 drivers.
