Falwell is a nut, and doesn't do the cause of Christianity any good. We'd all be a lot better off if he just kept quiet.

Personally, I don't really care too much about historical perspective. I'll leave that to the academics. It's the here and now, that matters to me when it comes to a social disease like religion. Falwell seems to be talking sense when he says:

Quote
"I've said often and many places that most Muslims are people of peace and want peace and tranquility for their families and abhor terrorism," Falwell said. "Islam, like most faiths, has a fringe of radicals who carry on bloodshed wherever they are. They do not represent Islam." [/b]
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

Better yet:

"I've said often and many places that most Christians are people of peace and want peace and tranquility for their families and abhor terrorism. Christianity, like most faiths, has a fringe of radicals who carry on bloodshed wherever they are. They do not represent Christians."

or...

"I've said often and many places that most Wiccans are people of peace and want peace and tranquility for their families and abhor terrorism. Wicca, like most faiths, has a fringe of radicals who carry on bloodshed wherever they are. They do not represent Wicca."

then again... maybe not on that second one... I'm going through the extensive list of Wiccan radicals and I'm coming up blank. :D

There's a problem with finding sense in some of the things Falwell says... you have to overlook so much that doesn't.

At Falwell's level, religion is a business. He got some "space" so this was a "good move" for him.

Who was it who said "any press is good press"?

Who was it who tossed the money-changers out of the temple? "Take these things hence; make not my Father's house a place of buying and selling."

I'm not atheist but I am agnostic.

Still, if I were Jerry and his ilk and believed as they say they believe, I'd be sweating the hereafter. After all, they all "got told" once already about this $ stuff.  ;)
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!
