UK AH Con - speaker confirmed
« on: October 08, 2002, 11:02:39 AM »
The UK AH convention takes place 25th to 27th October. Every year we have a formal 'gala' dinner with an after dinner speaker (or two).

This year's first confirmed speaker is Stamford Metcalfe.

J Stamford Metcalfe volunteered for service with the RAF in 1941 at the age of seventeen, sent to Rhodesia for training, solo'd on Tiger Moths and Oxfords, sent back to join 100 sqdn as a navigator initially on Wellingtons and then converted to Lancasters. Served continuously on operations until the end of the war, by which time he was an H2S instructor, demobbed in 1946.

He is a straight-talking yorkshireman, and quite a character. He was recently the subject of a TV documentary 'Flashback' for the History channel and channel 4. (I will try to get copies for the con).

I asked him how many operations he logged. "Hoho, plenty." He said. "Lets leave it at that."

He also sells Poppies. I have told him to bring some along.

There is a posibility that we will have two speakers this year - there's a few possibilities for the second I'll let you know when we get any more confirmations.

There are currently only nine (9) places left available for this years convention - you can register if you're quick at http://www.ahcon.org.uk/
