« Reply #17 on: October 10, 2002, 11:23:36 PM »
... apart from a couple of minor details, this one is ready. Jordi, e-mail me if it looks like something you'd use. Next on deck is the TBM and Wildcat.

Heh, a lot of mystique about aluminum. Apparently, the author didn't recognize the reflective properties and off color print problems.

skins previes for PBY/goon are ready/

Im not finde any dravings with sure historical markings
And decide to use only standart scheme for USNY.

NO squad markings, no serial number, no tac number.

To not make bigger historical mistakes;)

pictures are here:

LT Kobayashi Michio's
Aichi D3A1 Type 99 "Val"
Hiryu Kanjo Bakugekikitai

This plane flown by LT Kobayashi Michio, Commander of Hiryu's Bombing Squadron on June 4, 1942. Kobayashi, flying BII-201, along with his gunner, WO Ono Yoshinori, led the first counter attack by Hiryu against Yorktown on the afternoon of June 4. This strike composed of 18 D3A1s, divided into two nine plane Chutai (the rough equivalent of US divisions) and six A6M2 Zeros.

Only one bug /or mby not bug/, elevators top/bottom cannot by paint separatly, so i live all green.

Big for man/woman who make skins for last update, looks much better then early HTC skins

TBM for Midway is ready...

As best as I could considering the original mapping. You'd be surprised how much wasted "whitespace" is on this skin.

Umm he said the TBM is for both teams. maybe you should remove the logo, since he asked the tbm to be generic.

Ummm maybe I will wait and see if they actually use the skins first, then I can easily remove the roundels if they ask me to.

Ramzey, have you started the B-17 yet? If not, would you like me to? I was going to do the Wildcat next, but after looking at it closer, I realized it is already in Midway-era scheme... so one less skin to work on.

Dux,
i chk b17 skinning possibilyty and finde colour schema
but HTC make couple errors skining b17, all markings have alpha channel which one cannot be removed from skinning leve.
And som white holes on elevator and wing ruine green camuflage .

http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66942

So i think this b17 model cannot be repainted to 1942 army schema.:(

So its end  of list skins, Zeke can be repainted but i dont see reason to do that. Now schema are correct, and we can change only carrier markings on the plane

Jordi, Grimm any other requests?

Hey Ramzey, I found a trick for those Alpha-channel markings...

One of the "blue" planes that I exported from the Terrain Editor (don't remember which now) had 2 extra files, in addition to the normal skins; these 2 files were called MARKING.bmp and MARKING_a.bmp. The first file is a skin of a couple styles of blue & white stars, a Russian star, and a Canadian oak leaf. The second file is the alpha for the first, which clips the silhouette of the markings.

Check your Savedtex folder to see if you have these files already. If not, export a bunch of Blue planes and they will show up.

All you have to do is open the Alpha file, and black out the hole for the unwanted marking. When you compile the shape, the old marking becomes invisible. That's how I did the SBD and TBM.

Only drawback is... any planes that are used in this terrain AND use that markings file will have to have their markings painted directly onto the skins. Not a big problem though.

As for the mystery panels on the B-17...? I think having a 95% green B-17 is still better than not having one. I'm planning to work on this plane regardless of Midway, so if I find any solutions, I'll pass them on.
