Trees& clipboard bitmap
« on: October 15, 2002, 02:43:09 AM »
I may have missed, but can I add trees, or groups of them.

Also, I think nutz mentioned skinning an object as tree tops and elevating it above the ground to give vehicles cover. What object would be good to skin to do that. And how tall are the trees?(So I know what alt to put tree tops).

Also, when you "make map" and it goes to myterr folder, it is a 24bitmap. When I rename it myterr and put it in texsrc, my TE crashes when I try to open it to build the map.

Hello Sixpence!

1) Of course you can add trees, but remember they are 3D objects and if you have very much them, they affects to frame rate very dramatic in game.

For example I have about 50 trees and many other objects (plane dugouts, trucks etc. together about 150) around my little "backwoods airfields" and frame rate drops near fields from 60 to 15-20! Of course it depends on the power of your video card... remember that very many players don't have good one!

2) You must save your myterr map as 256 colour bitmap (texsrc folder) with for ex. Photo Shop or other program. You can also use the Photo Shop to write some information to your clipboard map.;)

Thnx, could you tell me the name of the object for trees? I can't find it.

And when I save the map 256 colors, it changes the map and distorts the colors.

Here's a program that you can use to decrease the color to 256.

Here's a editor terrain showing shapes, also has some readme files.  Has not been updated to v210P8 yet.

Pokie, that IrfanView is GREAT! I had earlier problems to convert different pictures and make translations between 8 bit and 24 bit pictures. Now it works and it works GOOOOOOOD!:D

Thx for the hint!;)
