system freez pointers please

do we know anything about how to limit the lock up your system bug?
I am really really really getting tired hearing my squadys voices repeat the last thing they said over and over and having to reboot my system to get out of it.
I always have a message that says dsub. and a graphic of a D connecter.

I have an asus a7v, 1800 athelon, radion 8500 retail. sblive card.

any ideas?

Sigh!

:D

Where do you start. I just cured my problems after a LOT of searching and trying things.  If you have over ridden Direct X refresh rates defaults DON'T. When I put them back to default , bingo lockups were cured.

Otherwise, all the usual stuff. New Video drivers, soundcard drivers. Via 4 in 1 drivers. Check for conflicts in device manager. Latest version of Direct X. Desktop at the same or lower colour depth as the game. Reinstall AH clean (don't forget to save your settings file).

There are some good guys out there in AH land who can help you more, but you need to post full details of your system.

Good luck;)

I would suggest getting out of that squad.  They are annoying.

Pongo if you're not keeping an eye on http://www.rage3d.com then start.  They come out with new radeon drivers about once a month, and rumor is one or two down the road will be an override fix for the xp refresh rates (without having to run 3rd party tweaks).

Past experience with VIA/AMD motherboards and SB formed a following equation: SB(anymodel)+VIA/AMD=problems^2

I used to think blasters were cool untill I had to throw one live away after installing w2k. Original drivers were from -98 and creative in all its wisdom cut online support for the drivers. "Order them on a CD-rom."

Yeah, overseas.. I have the 2 weeks. Really, I do.

---> Ding! ----> SB Live has exited the system.
