Staying Alive and Landing Kills in a Perk Ride
« on: October 11, 2002, 09:04:12 AM »
I like flying the F4u-4 a lot but hate the gangbang tags.  Being an altitude monkey keeps me out of the gang-bang most times but it also keeps me out of the fun.  Any advice on how to live and land kills w/ those nasty ganbang tags ?

Stay above everyone.  When you're not above them, make sure you're going fast enough that nobody can get a gunshot.

The only way to survive in an f4u4 is to keep your plane where everyone nearby can't keep thier nose pointed at you.  The exception is, a dive to the deck(ONLY if the deck is at sea level, above 1000ft a dive to the deck is suicide) should suffice for running to a safe base.

If you don't like being an altmonkey, the only perk planes worth using are the f4u1c, and the 262.

This is the huge problem with the perk system, specificly the planes which don't possess the performance to be untouchable, like the 262 or tempest.  The ta152, spit14, and f4u4 SHOULD be perked, and thier prices are set about right.  However thier performance doesn't dominate any of the other 1944 monsters in the game, they are slightly better, which is why they're perked, but not good enough to survive the ensuing gangbang.

The prices are right, the gangbang tags make the planes NOT fun to fly, which ruins the entire point.

F4u-4 Hardly deserves the high cost it carry's imo, kind of like the TA-152. Perk it yes, over 20 points? Not in my opinion.

Fact is perk planes are a special kind of target.

So much so that people will leave the sure kill they have to go chase one.

Come high to the fight.
Have a wingman/squad helping
Have a preplanned exit Strategy

Last is the toughest, and the most likely to save your life. You KNOW as soon as your seen, you'll have a mob after you. So, have a few friends back round the bend. Drag the mob to your friends and voila.

Flying Perkplanes forces you to think ahead, consider consiquences. Be the rabbit with the diamond studded collar, EVERYONE wants a piece of you. Hence you have to be THAT much smarter.

Perks have no value except for the fun they bring...my advice is pick a perk ride you like and learn it. The only really bad perk ride is the Ta...piece of junk. I used to fly the tempest a bit and dont think I ever lost 1. The -4 seems fine but know I got rocked a few times in it. Most fun was T&Bing the 262. Real key is what you fly to get perkies.

If your gona get kills and land perk rides. Don't make my mistake that I so often do.... Don't get to greedy. Set yourself a goal and then strive to achive it. If you set youself a kill for 2 kills. Then when you have your 2 kills bug out and RTB. That's what I do.
