Flashing bases and Inflight radar.
« on: October 20, 2002, 11:42:28 PM »
I am beggining to dislike these, in the CT and the Events.

They seem to me to be a MA thing mainly.

What is the point of a daring NOE raid into occupied territory (in 110s or Bostons or whatever) when as soon as you get close, the air raid siren goes off, and every single engined fighter in the sector scrambles with time to spare?

I think the settings are too ez, and the bases should flash only when an enemy a/c passes close enough to have the AAA kick in.

Flashing bases are not needed when there is bar dar either. You dont need both.

Lets cut down on the "gimmes". Speaking of bar dar, having it update inflight in realtime in the CT is baloney too.

Its too easy, and the whole thing seems geared to cadre to the Furball crowd who have to know where every enemy a/c is all the time.

Give Jabo/NOE missions a chance at least in the CT and Events (those events that use the flashing bases settings, not all do).

This is what REALLY gets me, flying at 200ft, BEHIND HILLS and having the enemy base start to flash! thats just MA nutiness.

Regards.

P.S. This is just an opinion to start a discussion, so pls dont hurt me. CT is still #1 :)

Well generaly dot and bar is off bellow 2 to 5 hundred feat, so if it is not curently I do appoligise, also I generaly limite base warning ranges considerably howeaver this may of been overlooked, or more likely I just asumed they were set that way since they normaly are, but this is also a new map so, I gues I screwed the pouch, sry m8t.

These seting do vary from time to depending on what set up being run and who is runing it, in other words your millage Will Vary:)

Well I just checed and dot dar was off bellow 1000 ft already, the warning ranges were a bit far out so I shortened them some for both sector and base flashing ranges for aircraft.

Also the range for vehicals was way out their and i did shorten it up considerably.

One must bear in mind that milkruning is always a potintial issue and the base flashing is a critical tool to prevent this from happing, so we dont want these to short, what is a critical issue is finding a happy medieum, a point at which setings can be set to allow for a realistic feal, and one that alows a fight to be able to develope in sufficient time to give the defenders a chance, that is before the attacker has taken all the ack down and is parked on the runway drouling allover him self waiting for sombody to sapwn 100 feet infront  of him.

Thanks for the feedback Brady. I guess every CT is different too, sometimes you do need radar (like 1944 8th AF) its just for low level runs, sometimes the jabos "need a break" if you know what I mean.

Later.
