Photos of P-38G-10-LO ser.# 42-13400 of the 54th FS, 343rd FG, 11th AF; now on permanent display at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. This aircraft crash-landed on one of the Aleutian Islands during a training exercise in '44 or '45 (I can't recall now). It remained at the crash site until a few years ago when it was recovered by the air force and transported to Elmendorf where it underwent restoration. While the plaque on the monument says it was restored to flying condition, those of you with a keen eye will notice at least one reason why this ship won't fly in its present state (other than the fact that it's bolted to a slab of concrete).
Flyable or not, she's still a beauty. I wish the scans had come out better but they'll at least give you a taste. Enjoy!
