I thought he'd be a small, elusive bird that you hunt at night with a gunny sack.

Them snipes is tough...my friends took me snipe hunting a few weeks ago, but we never found one.  Come to think of it, my friends gave up early and went home, but I stuck it out all night to no avail.  We're going again tonight tho' and I'm feeling good about my chances.  Wish me luck!

actually it works better if the 'rookie snipee' is told to stay here while 'we' scare him out of cover..

"you just wait here and be ready..."

snipes are tough to catch.. almost as tough as cows are to tip...

It appears that simple greed was/is the motivation. In a way, I'm relieved; on the other hand, if convicted, I hope they spend the rest of their lives in solitary confinement.

Sounds alot like when my friend Elmer and I went hunting Jackalopes.
We saw lots of sign (jackalope sh*t) and a few tracks, even followed a set of em right to a hole in the ground, but alas I never got a glimpse of our prey.

Elmer said the trick to hunting Jackalopes is to be "wery, wery quiet".
I guess we were just a tad too noisey and scared off the jackalopes.

Elmer says soon he'll take me duck hunting, I really look forward to that.
