Repost of ammo.gif (WWII Ammo side by side)

Ok, I'm going to try and post this, but I'm not certain if I'll get it right.

Now, the image I have did not have the names of the different types of ammo embeded in it, so I'm working from memory here.  If you have the original, or can more accurately identify the ammo, please pipe up.

The ones I'm 99% certain on are the 20mms.  there is a Japanese or german one, then there is the Hizzooka.

This is what I believe is the correct (left to right) order of the ammo in the picture.

30 cal,
303 cal,
50 cal, (12.7 and 50 may be reversed)
12.7mm,
13mm,
^^^ Machine gun
VVVV Cannon
15mm,
20 mm (ho 90/German of some type),
20 mm (Hizooka),
23mm?,
27mm?
30mm,  (German)
37mm? (from P-39's cannon I think)

u know what confuses me about these pics..?

the 12.7mm that the LW planes are armed with are actually bigger than the .50cal in real life.

why does the .50 rip stuff up so bad in AH and the 12.7mm is about as useful as a .303?
I don't know what to put here yet.

LW didn't use 12.7 mm, they used 13 mm, which is the shrimpy black bullet with a silver stripe, to the right of the .50 cal.

The diamater of the bullet realy tells you very little about it, Italian Breda 12.7mm, and Japanese 12.7mm Ho-103 rounds are similar but the Ho-103 is such a better gun with a Blisteringly high rof that the comparative effectiveness of the two is vastly disimilar. The Ho-103 has the same diamater as the US 50 cal but fires HEI rounds typicaly while the US 50 cal fires mostly solid AP rounds, the Ho 103 has a higher ROF and yet they tend to differ in their effect, the Ho 103 is better at defeating the airplane by blowing away control surfices and in general atacking the plane, while the 50cal us round pentrates to defeat the engine and piolet, the US 50 cal is also a very heavy by comparision weapon sys the ammo and the gun are much heaver that the forgin counterparts, take the MG 131 13mm gun, much lighter higher rof and again firing HEI type ammo, both the Ho 103 and the MG 131 have lower MV and lower effective ranges but they cary chemical engery and are designed to effect damage in a different maner to defeat the enemy, all this at what is generaly considered the common engegement range, while the US guns had a longer range most of the usefullness in this range were lost and the US paid a high price for this in weight.

So in short diamater dont mean didedly.
