Salute All

In the interests of improving what the CT Staff provides, please indicate which Setups you liked, and why you liked them.

Please list by name or if you can't remember, then list the map used and the types of planes.

1 Kurile Is. w/o the USN Japanese vs Russians makes for      some       i nteresting fights ki61 and n1k2 vs la5 and la7 .

2 Burma again an other classic match up a6m2 vs f4f and p40b

3 BOB brings out the bomber in me when else you gonna get a 3-4 kill sortie plus you get to destroy ground targets in a ju88.

4 Tunisa  a fairly even plane set c202 109f4 vs hurri II and spitV

5 Stalingrade 1943 if the map ever gets fixed pretty good gv battles good plane match ups. would be better todo an early russian like a early 1942 but russians have no early planes.

BTW what ever happened to the Germany Map we had a long while back that was fun to need to bring back a late war setup with that one.

Favorites:
Battle of Britain.  The standard by which all others are judged.  The current map is the best.
Libya (P40 & Hurri v. 202 and Emil)
Burma (A6M2 v. P40)

Would be favorites, if maps weren’t FPS eaters:
Sicily (esp. low over Malta, and anywhere near those frigging ack boats) (but I liked the plane set a lot)
Tunisia (the poison cloud) (but I liked the plane set a lot)

Marred only by the fact that I don’t really enjoy flying Luftwaffe planes, and am always stuck doing so in this setup:
Black Sea

Maps that haven’t worked well because the bases are too far apart:
Philippines
Solomons
Stalingrad

So far, I would have to say Wotan's Big Week setup, Burma and Norway.

BoB would take number one if there was a way of preventing it from degenerating into a Dover/Calais furball.

I like everything, and I like variety.  I want to see a variety of aircraft, theaters, time-frames, scenarios, and even a few experiments.
I would vote for the following:
* About 1/3 of the set-ups should be PTO.
* About 1/3 of the set-ups should be ETO/ US + Britain Vs. Germany.
* About 1/3 of the set-ups should be Other.  I.E. Russian front, odd maps/places, and experiments.
* About 1/2 of the set-ups should be early war.
* About 1/2 of the set-ups should be late war.  (Or as many different time frames as we can host with the current planes and maps.)

At least once a month, we should run: an ETO, a PTO, an early, and a late set-up.
I like to see set-ups that force me to try new planes that I don’t know well and/or fly often.

Favorites:
Just about anything historically based.
I really enjoyed the European bomber scenerio involving the BigBoB map (although I think this map is too big for the average CT setup, and too flat and featureless for my taste).

Least Favorites:
Anything that could be construed as "fantasy" or "what if."
(yeah, I know it's a make-believe game ... but I think you know what I mean ... setups like the "rolling planeset" ones)

I like all the CT maps except Stalingrad, which kills my framerate and I cannot fly it.

Within a variety of time periods (1940-45) and applicable terrains, I'd like to see:

  • 40% of setups be U.S./British Empire vs Germany and/or Italy
  • 40% be U.S./British Empire vs Japan
  • 20% be very focused battles and planesets such as BoB, Midway, or Kursk, "Winter War"or other experimental setups

Still need a few early war US aircraft, like the P-39 and early P-38, and at least 1/2 dozen Japanese aircraft to make the PTO setups better though.

I prefer the Euro setups overall, N Africa second to that. I'll play in the pacific if that's the only thing going. :D
I think though, that rather than asking for opinions on this forum, if you recorded attendance in total numbers in the arena over the week of a setup you'd get a much more accurate look at what the players think is fun and what they think isn't fun. The present setup is a good example - it's a great setup and personally I really have a ball in it, but the numbers I've seen in the arena this week are very very low. Players in AH seem to vote most often with their feet rather than on the BBS.

Just my $0.02.

Cheers,

Anything that doesn't have a rotten Spit/Seafire or LA7 in it.

The Slot and Midway if it ever gets fixed

i think a good theater rotation (with variety in plane/time frames) would be...

1. ETO (BoB, maybe some bases on mainland europe - not using england bases)

2. africa/norway/russia (the "lesser" fronts")

3. PAC (varying time frames - once they flesh out the japanese planeset - with varying maps)

4. Perdonia - using whatever planeset is fun be it eto/pac/fantasy... it's just terrain... and CT is small enough where we don't always *need* a historical map.

and puhleeeeeeeze, when using the BoB map and cross-channel fighting design, limit the TG's to the sectors away from the channel, but close enough for cv planes to come into play if desired. locked TF routes and unsinkable TF's.  TF have no business being in the channel and used as mobile coastal ack batteries.

oh... and if possible, a variation of the BoB map with them annoying "cities" taken out... they have no impact on gameplay other than to kill FPS, especially the english coast which is already jammed with bases and ports close to each other, which in itself is a fps killer.
