Yer better off getting a college degree in computer science than getting a cert from one company. Even a two year degree would be better.

I've lookd at MCSE, I watched their requirements drop, I looked at CCNA, I even looked at Redhat's cert.

college degree is good for life, who knows how long MCSE or CCNA will be around.

Also college degree is understood everywhere no matter what softwares they use, not so for the MCSE or CCNA.

Also, please learn what you are doing, it's extremely frustrating to have to clean up a mess after someone who was supposed to fix it in the first place.

FWIW I have an MCP (from '99) I stopped after the second exam (the networking essentials isn't certified) and I knew then that it was the wrong way to go, only now (that I've reached the non-degreed wage ceiling) have I started studying for college entrance so I can move along again.
Gone from the game. Please see Spikes or Nefarious for any Ahevents.net admin needs.

Does that count?

It's better to have the degree AND the cert(s).

Start with the degree and add the cert(s) as needed.

I do agree that people don't respect MCSE's,i too am a hands on 7 year experience guy on PC's and networks, but am studying for the MCSE atm because i'm missing out on a lot of jobs i could do standing on my head, because i don't have it.
Tho when i get it,i'm not going to tell anyone except potential employers :)

im in the middle of MCSE too....

started 1 1/2 yrs ago and got A+ / Network+ and have 2 MCSE tests done... 70-210 and 70-215 (2000pro and 2000server)
but have been intrrupted for last few months

im not going to finish MCSE instead 1 more test will get me MCSA then i'm going to get CCNA then go for Linux

the reason is XP is allready being rolled out in workplaces and 2000 MCSE will be outdated in 1-2 yrs

The schooling has taught me alot.. but i still dont know alot LOL

the 1 problem is all my friends and family call me at all hours of the day and night with PC questions. :(
