HTC: I've had it with this killshooter!!!!!
« on: November 03, 2002, 01:18:03 PM »
Why the ***** does the killshooter need to hurt yourself?!

Here I am chasing a n1k through loops and turns in my typh, and I start firing and taking piece of the n1k off and some arse jumps in front of me and I end up hitting 4-5 20mms on him which in turn take out my plane. This all happened in about 10 seconds so don't tell me I took too long taking out the n1k.

This killshooter bs has to be changed

No cursing, no caps, no exclaimation points, but he did threaten to quit.  He also was careful to point out nothing that happened was any fault of his own.  It was obviously all the arse's fault.

2.8 at least.

Killshooter needs to be there simply because it creates more realistic combats than without it.

No, I'm not saying that without it your team mates would just kill you.  I'm looking at it from the perspective that friendlies could just blaze away from behind you to get the enemy in front of you.  The shots that hit you simply stop.

That bears no rememblence to WWII aircombat.  In reality you didn't shoot in that situation because you might kill your squadronmate / friend / countrymen.  In a game that line of reasoning doesn't work (unfortunately), so the only way to get all players to check their fire when a friendly is in front of them is killshooter.

Now killshooter isn't perfect and accidents due to lag, or callous teammates, will happen.  They aren't that common though.

I killshootered myself last week while flying a P-47D-11.  A friendly had an FM2 on him so I rolled in behind the FM2 and started laying into it.  I was getting hits when I was back in the tower.  The FM2 got credit for me.  A single one of my bullets had hit the guy I was helping and the damage was allocated to my cockpit.

Oops.

Oh well, it happens sometimes and I'm more than willing to accept that kind of occasional irritation so that we can have combat that more closely resembles WWII aircrambat.

Killshooter doesnt do anything to stop people entering the line of fire. I would suggest *both* parties taking damage, that way there would be less enthusiasm for jumping in the way.

you have a hat switch. How hard is it look to ensure that no friendly is in a better advantage then you are?

After all you are shooting him, he seems to be in the better position for the kill then you?

Or are you claiming that "kill" as yours? And everyone should get out of your way?

In an arena enviroment with over 400 folks you need to fly it such a way as to not get yourself killed. That means looking before you pull the trigger. No one cares if you die. Its up to you to look after yourself. The friendly you shot is just as target fixated as you are. Hes doing the same you are going for a kill. Either you can get pissed off or learn what SA is. It aint about just knowing what the bad guy in front of you is doing.

What do you do when you are target fixated and an enemy kills you?

Complain about no 6 calls?

You control your trigger, you have the ability to look around.

Killshooter angers me while vulching.

It would be soooo nice to put a couple dozen M-Geschoss through yer mate and the enemy at the same time, who cares, he got in the way ?

I give it a 2.00

If it wasn't for the inclusion of the **** it would have been less..

But a worthy effort none the less.

I'm going to weigh in with a dismal 1.5.  Seriously lacking vehemence or any personal slur.  There are a million killshooter rants out there more worthy than this one.

Because if you don't get whacked upside the head with a 2x4 when you do it, you'll never learn that firing through a friendly plane to shoot at an enemy plane is a Bad Thing(tm). Particularly if you're not shooting at an enemy plane, but are shooting at friendlies because they aren't thinking about defending themselves from people who are putatively on their side.

It's too much trouble for the host to figure out whether there is an enemy plane in line with the friendly plane every time you hit a friendly, so that firing through/past a friendly can be distinguished from firing at a friendly and the latter punished but not the former, so hitting a friendly gets punished regardless of the situation. Eventually you learn not to do it.

Well, most of us...

Eventually...

We hope...

Dont let the door hit you in the butt!

Killshooter needs to remain as is, I have heard no acceptable alternative.  We need it to prevent jerks from shooting teammates, and it has to damage the shooter to hold down the "shoulder-shooters".

Make it do no damage, you will quickly have others blasting away past your canopy to steal a kill you earned.  That in its self is frustrating enough, but let it happen when you don't know if its a countrymate trying to steal, or an enemy about to kill you.

I have pulled off more than a couple cons because tracers were flying all around me just to discover it was a bellybutton trying to steal.

Killshooter deaths really are for the majority a very rare thing, if it happens to anyone frequently it is probably their own fault.

I killshootered myself last night.  I need a little reminder like that every now and then so that I don't forget I'm a tard.

LOL a tard alert :D

That does have merit. I remind myself of that occasionally myself.

Tard alert is a much better term than killshooter.

Ask mitzu to make a sound file for it..

You make a mistake you have "tard alert" sound files to reinforce the act of "tard" :)
