Cav,  Just because folk don't necessarily agree with your opinion, doesn't mean its not worty and valid.  Healthy discussion only improves stuff for us all. Keep it comin bro.

I guess what happened in your case is the a6m peppered you right up to the point of breaking you apart but didnt, for example say it takes 50 'damage points' to break a wing off.  And say 1 a6m MG round is worth 2 points, he puts 24 of those into the wing and does 48 points worth of damage.  Then the KI-61 comes along hits you with 1 round putting your wing over the 50 point mark, your wing breaks and you would think that the KI-61 has gotten the kill, but in fact it was the a6m who scored highest on the damage front.  Anway i fly ponies a lot in the MA and often i've lit up planes and smashed them to pieces only to get an assist.

All I am saying to you is don't get too dissillusioned if ya have a bad day at the TOD office.  Wouldn't it get rather boring if ya had a blinder every week.  Certainly would get boring for your victims:D

Orders were simple.  Get airborne, fly to A1, kill anybody you find but ensuring your own survival, make a path for the bombers.

We were granted the use of 6 KI61's for the mission.  We had a lowish turnout for us and this meant that 3 of us upped in a6m-2's.  I decided to give the KI’s to the main striking force and keep the a6m’s above the fray to provide eyes and where necessary top cover.

Before we arrived in the CAP area, 332 Vikings and 56th FG became heavily engaged there.  This broke up the enemy force and brought them low.  Arriving over the top of the fight - we unleashed the KI’s upon the scattered bandits.  Zekes stayed higher in case more uninvited bad guys suddenly showed up or we got a call for help from the boy’s below.

Kills came quickly and surgically :)  Cavalier would be right about being sliced up by a KI, we had enough E from our alt advantage to B&Z in a turn fighter.  He probably just caught the eye of a diving element at the wrong time.  We wracked up about 5 kills in just a couple of minutes then tried to help our mates get safely back to base.  We lost one KI almost immediately though after he became seperated from his wingman.

We recovered to the nearest field for fuel and ammo.  Reports from the area indicated that it was clear, but I was a little nervous about us all being on the ground at once.  Two of us landed after fuelling had finished for the others.

A report of an A20 in the area had us scrambling into the air again.  Orders came through to proceed to A29 and clear it for bombers.  The Vikings asked for our help to the North to shoot some ducks settling on the water, but Frame CO didn’t release us.  We caught a lone A20 while we were on climbout.

Our bombers hit their targets pretty much unmolested and both primary and secondaries were destroyed.  One element was despatched from our CAP over V29 to chase a couple of cheeky interlopers away.    A spit came over to help a running P40 and it seems the P40 kept running and the Spit had to fight it out alone. Spitfire pilot.

By this time we had lost 1 to enemy fire and 2 to discos.  We returned to refuel rearm and lost 2 more to a simultaneous CTD.

Frame CO was pleased and ordered that we should all land and return to tower as “there are no enemy left”.  We went to tower just in time to hear that enemy A20’s were hitting A10 unopposed.  Kimoono wearing CO (open at front) was last seen kneeling in front of a cushion laying out two wicked swords from a silk bundle.  Something about apologising to the Emperor for A10.  :D

I get really really tired of selective realism disguised as a desire to make bombers easier to kill.
