MA Voters - your advice please
« on: November 04, 2002, 10:31:24 PM »
I'm a simple minded , not very political person

All I want is to vote for those who

- would rather wait for the UN and worlds approval before charging into Iraq
-will support Otis ANGB, which is right next to me and faces a lot of flak and calls to shut down
-lower taxes (obviously)

Locally, I'm looking for a DA who is tough on drunk drivers. That's all i care about because my friend got nailed by a drunk and the guy is about to walk free

So, any suggestions?

For Senate you've got John Kerry against a libertarian. Libertarian is Latin for freedom meaning they tend to set drunk drivers free. Go with Kerry.

As for the rest, what district are u in?

Wow!

You mean that the MA folks have choices other than Kennedy and Kerry?

I thought that the only choice they have is

Left vs. Extreme Left.

i think you're confusing libertarian with anarchist.
libertarians think that gov't shouldn't do a lot of the stuff that it now does, like managing interest rates, keeping people from smoking pot, housing the homless and buying shi++y andy warhol litographs for hundreds of thousand$$$.
libertarians do believe in protecting citizens from violent criminals.
anarchists would have criminals injured by angry mobs or imprisoned by a private sector detainment organization.
from the point of view of moose's pal, i'd think the anarchist would be a better punishment for the sodden motorist, but a libertarian the most likley to insure that this type of thing doesn't happen again.
a democrat would have to split time in trying to get drunx off the street and choosing the best poet for poet laureate, a republican would be plenty busy invading iraq

Here’s how you should vote.

Governor: Carla Howell (Libertarian Party)

U.S. Senator: Michael Cloud (Libertarian Party)
(Kerry voted for IRAQ)

Ballot Questions
1) Eliminating the state personal income tax:       YES
2) English language education in public schools:  YES
3) Taxpayer Funding for Political Campaigns:        NO

As a rule of thumb for the rest of the candidates, if there are no Libertarians, vote Republican. There are way too many Democrats in TAXachusetts!

libertarian is probly your best bet but if you want defeat someone then libertarian is a wasted vote.   If erosion of freedom and higher taxes are and issue then you need to vote against the democrat every time.  That usualy leaves you in the dilema that most of us default republicans are in..  The republicans are pompous windbags but they are more in line with the constitution and less likely to take away constitutions rights or add new taxes... they also don't propose as much "feelgood" and costly legislation.

most people end up being on issue voters.   If you are against say... more and more gun control... you would vote republican to defeat democrats who, on the whole, are rated "F" in NRA gun rights polls that the politicians fill out themselves.

If you are that uninformed you should do yourself and your fellow citizens a favor and stay away from the polls this election.

Next time you should start early informing yourself of the ballot and vote according to your educated convitions.

Gotta agree with Oz

If you aren't going to get involved in your local government, and how it effects you....and have to post on a Flight Sim BBS to figure out how to vote....then do not.

I pity you...really....read a paper, watch some news...follow the issues.  Democrats pretty much control Mass and Dems are not going to cut your taxes any.  As for Otis ANG Base...I was stationed there for 3 years...it needs a HUGE cleanup from years of pollution...I dont what is going on down there for ballot initiatives or issues but even today's paper should have some information on them.

Really....get involved.

skip voting!?

no way!!!! - the polls don't close for a good long time, most of the info you need is available on the internet - it doesn't take that long and in most cases the complicated issues are digested - at least in CA they are.

i suggest you get in there and study and figure it out - it's part of the burden of democracy - then go out and vote!

:)
