Hope they have the imagination to put some kind of side ballencing into it when they implement. Bet they do..Its a no brainer that a GAME should have somewhat equal chances of success for all players...

When il2 becomes massive multiplay, htc will most definatly be in a possible "hurting" status.  I have head from oleg that he infact wants to do this.. and IS going to do this, possibly starting after Forgotten battles.
...

If oleg gets the networking server side of things correct, well... then he really has won it all.

nah... planeset too limited. cpu requirements already highend, throw in MMPOG code and lag and you'll see people struggling... as well as their server.

maybe in a few years.   such is the nature of the beast.

Hmm, I see it as very probable that, if Oleg wants to do this, he will certainly be able to do this.

You need already a good PC to run Il-2. More than AH.

But that doesnt matter for those who are able to run Il-2 and those are the majority.

If Oleg decides to add MMP to Il-2 after FB, it will be around 2004 for this to happen I guess.

I am not afraid that this would have to lead to huge amounts of additional computing power needed to run. I mean, compare the FR of AH offline and online. I didnt try yet, but I suppose its not that much of a difference. Server-side problems? Nothing unresolveable considering HTC made it 2 years ago already good working, not talking about IEN and whatnot.

And, these guys are clever. Not saying that HTC-staff is not, but considering the economical circumstances in russia, you can get very well educated scientists for very little money. I believe I saw the list of members of Olegs team, and it was indeed very impressive.

Try to get a comparable staff in the US. Well, you can find them, but you cant pay them :D

It is surely some kind of serious competition, if/when Oleg pulls this off. But till then quite some time will pass, and much can happen. We should just wait and see.

Just from pure-arsed guessing based on the (very impressive) work I've seen from his crew....

If Oleg wanted to go this route, it'd be 1.5 to 2 years before  "Il-2 online" could hope to threaten HTC.

He's definitely got the team... but game development and the establishment of a day to day online operation with billing, servers, community (squad) support etc. are, for all intents and purposes, two entirely different enterprises. Nevermind the development of meaningful (and fulfilling) arena play... whatever form that takes.

Again, if he started now I'd give him to 2nd quarter 2004 until it's outta beta. Anyone wanna venture a guess as to what AH will look like in 2nd quarter 2004?

This is funny.  The game isn't even out of the planning stages and you guys are just about ready to jump ship.

You guys also seem not to add in the equation, future upgrades to Aces High and by the time IL2 ever sees the light of day, Aces High as we know it will have evolved into much more than what it is now.  By that time, we'll probably have the MT arena already in place and might even see the addition of the submarine and player controlled, first person troopers.

I don't see Il2 as much of a threat.

Maybe HiTech and Oleg have a joint operation:

*Oleg get MMPOG code and business know-how and Hitech get state-of-art sim coding etc know-how.*

You know, wheel IS invented allready so, lets just agree how we share information for both side benefits.

*AH cockpit snap view sysem with saved head positions in IL2*
*TrackIR view system coorporate with saved head positions in AH*
 *IL2-OnLine MMPOG server in Finland*
 *Flyable Brewster. Come to papa!*
 *IL2 DM in AH*
 *and........*
 *also ...*
 *.. (fade out)

Personally, the gunnery and the FM will keep me here in AH.  I *do* like IL-2 though, not enough to give up AH however.

And that's all before the porked IL2 FM's and ballistics issues are even brought into the picture.

Just to be clear Oedipus based on your statement you have flown Bf-109's,Fw-190's, Mig-3's, Lagg aircraft and Yak's of the types represented in IL-2. And from your many test flights with those unrefurbished aircraft with different grades of fuel and ammunition loads you can base your real life thoughts on that. Also I am sure that those aircraft you flew in real life had the various 20mm, 30mm and many different caliber of machine gun ammunition installed on them.

Or is it that the planes in IL-2 handle differently than the ones in [insert the name of your favorite flight simulation game here]. You name a couple of flight simulations and there will be glaring differences in the FM and ballistics. Some may be right and some may be wrong. But unless you have flown those aircraft you are criticizing you are pulling this out of your butt.

Now before you go and get squeaky. I have no knowledge of these aforementioned aircraft other than what is published by hundred's of authors who have many different reports that all cross over some point of common ground occasionally. So I just want to know what the basis is for you accusation/knowledge below? Or is it that you base your thought process on what you assume to be true based on the hundreds if not thousands of varying reports that are out there from "testing" that took place during and after WW2.

Sorry about the rant I am just tired of seeing people make biased comments because they think the game being discussed is incorrect.

Oleg has a whole boat load more work than just getting it to handle 100+ players and getting good networking code.

I could go into it, but it'd just take entirely too long...

If it's client side MMP based servers, that'd be better for him to do with the games he's currently producing(produced)...

If it goes Pay2Play server side MMP, he'll get the insta-action quakeball fans... but no one else.

I would not play it, the game turned me off right away with it's issues. Mostly non game play ones but still. How hard is it to make a patch, that doesn't require all the other damn patches?
