Old CH F-16 Fighterstick out of order
« on: November 04, 2002, 03:46:57 AM »
I have this old stick gathering dust in my room. It's the old series that can't deal with fast Motherboards. I've looked for a shop in Spain where I can buy the chip that addresses the problem, but I've been unable to find a single one.

Any of you have any idea where can I find this chip?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Why not mail CH products direct?

They've always supplied spares direct (usually FreeOfCharge for pots and switches) if they have them still.

What chip? Your stick should work. Have you tried it and had a problem with it? Does your new faster system use WinXP?

Thanks for help!  :)

I think I'll try e-mailing CH Products.

FLS the problem is some old hardware (mine) can't deal with modern bus speeds, I think. The fact is that the joystick is operative as 2 axis 4 buttons, but can't be programmed.

Sounds like you have WinXP which doesn't allow programming. It's not a hardware issue. There is no replaceable chip in older CH gear.

I'm pretty sure about this...

If my memory suits me well, serial numbers 12.XXX and under had this issue. Im trying to find it on CH forums.

On my particular joy, I have 2 computers at home (one AMD and the other Pentium based), tried (unsuccessfully) to make it work under XP, W98 and W2k in both machines.

If I find the issue on CH forum, I will post it.

Here it is.

Lastly, if you are running a 100mhz board or above you may have keyboard speed incompatibilities, which would require a modification to your Fighterstick's circuit board. (The easiest way to know if your motherboard is running, or capable of running, at 100mhz is to look for an AGP bus on your motherboard). If you are running a 100mhz board, check your serial number. If your serial number reads 12800 or above then you may not have to do the modification. If not, consult CH Products for more information.

I didn't realize you'd already read the parts where it says that Speedkeys doesn't work with WinXP and Win2K and that you can set your KB frequency to 6hz to correct the speed issue.

My CH stick is serial # 11XXX and works fine with new boards but apparently you'll have to get a new circuit board for yours.
